Hi guys, I was thinking about buying this beast from Eurocom.
However, I am not sure about configuration.

They offer second and third hdd for really high prices.

Actually it is about 300USD for 320GB 7200RPM and extra 65bucks for RAID setup.

It seems to me kinda overpriced. What do you think?

Is it better to buy just one HDD and then buy other ones by myself for 1/3 price?

What do I need to setup RAID and where to get it ?

CPU is upgradable right? I may buy just default CPU and then upgrade it with my desktop Q9650. Is it difficult?

I would appreciate any CPU switch guide, GPU switch guide or raid setup assistance :)

Thank you all for your time.

If the option is too expensive you can buy an extra hdd by yourself and install by yourself. The raid setup can be done by anyone, but it might need windows install.

RAID setup is usually free if you order it with 2 HDD or more. If you want to save a few extra dollars, then get it with one HDD and install the rest yourself. People usually setup RAID-0 for gaming and RAID-1 for safety backup. Not sure about RAID-5 users though.

Should be easy enough to upgrade it to your Q9650. The service manual is available in Gophn's Clevo Guide right about here.

Thank you very much for your answers.
Do I need a RAID cable or something like that?

I have no idea how to set RAID setup :)

Nope. Generally you just hit CTRL-I or something during boot and turn it on in the RAID configuration screen, though you might have to also enable RAID mode in the BIOS first. Hopefully your users guide should describe it in better detail.

Bottom line is, there is no special or additional hardware required. Just remember that switching to RAID generally means losing everything on the non-RAID drives you're switching, and you'll have to reinstall the OS, so backup what you need first.

you may run into problems trying to convert your os to raid later down the line. best to have it installed in ahci mode first. using stardard mode is basically lengthy process to convert to raid. unless you plan on reinstalling once you get the new hard drive.

and just doing a back up or image of drive will not suffice either...unless of course it was in ahci mode to begin with. also..you will need to slipstream your drivers into a cd or have a usb floppy drive handy. make sure you also have your drivers already for the raid install....

this is all just to get you ready for when you decide your ready to install....
