Hi, I believe I have a repackaged model of a Clevo 570u called the Rock XCTX.

Its lasted me a good 3 years now and I was wondering what upgrade features are available for it.

I am looking to put a better graphics card in as it currently has an ATI Radeon X1600 128mb installed. The Rockdirect website says it is upgradable to a NVIDIA GeForce Go 7800 GTX 256MB but i was wondering whether I could put an even better card in.

Also, I currently have an intel core duo t2400, which is 1.83ghz. Is it possible to upgrade to a better chip, or even if possible a core 2 duo chip?

Id also like to know whether the XCTX has Socket M or Socket P!

Im from the UK btw, hence my purchase with rockdirect

    Cheers!

cheers, I'm guessing because its an intel 945 M chipset (i presume) that it means i cannot upgrade to core 2 duo?

T7600 is already Core 2 Duo.

yes but i checking online it appears that the t7600 is alot more expensive than its equivalents ie the t7700. Is this due to its compatibility with intel 945 M chips? or will the laptop handle all intel core 2 duo chips?

also in terms of graphics, is the laptop compatible with MXM-II cards?

M57U has no MXM VGA, only Clevo format. T7600 is the most powerful CPU in 945 paltform, so expensive is normal.

will try asking rock after the bank holidays finish, but atm the prices of the upgrades seem pretty ridiculous, esp for the cpu at around £200, and the same for the 7950GTX at around £150... not willing to spend another £350 on a laptop that will probably only have a year left.

Does anyone know of any cheaper upgrades i can get for around £200 total? ie for cpu and graphics

have found a relatively good priced 7950GTX. however although it is said to be compatible with these laptops: Alienware M7700 / ROCK/Clevo D900T
it says nothing of the clevo 570U.

are all geforce 9750GTXs the same build? or is it possible that a card compatible with those laptops not be compatible with the 570U?

If its compatible with the D900T / D900K (aka. Alienware M7700), then it should fit in the M570U.

the only thing to do is to remount your vidoecard heatsink/fan assemble from the M570U onto the D900T module that you will be purchasing.

Ok, I managed to purchase a 7950GTX and am waiting for it to be delivered. I have a question about mounting the old heatsink onto the new graphics card. Will i need thermal paste for this procedure or is it just done via screws? Also, if my existing graphics card is glued to the heatsink/fan then how do i remove it?

    Cheers
    Kam

removing it should be a simple case of a few screws, make sure that you clean off the old paste, this is very important. Buy the AS kit with the cleaner and the paste, then apply a paperthin layer on the GPU and mount the heatsink back on

    Jobs a good one :)
