I want to upgrade my GPU to a 680M. From what I read, everything works perfectly, including HDMI out. Couple of questions before I proceed to purchase an expensive GPU.

1 ) Does the card have to be a branded clevo?

    2) is there a version that works or doesn't work with P150HM. I do recall in 7970M that v 1.1 GPU does not work. It has to be 1.2+

    3) Do the install brackets and heat sink fit from a 6990M to a 680M? or will I need new ones?

    4) Will there be any issues with a 95% gamut screen? I think I read somewhere on this forum that one of the gpu/laptop combos had that issue.

    I appreciate any posts.

    Thank You

Are you currently hitting bottlenecks on your GPU you have now?

It needs to be a clevo/sager with original version of the clevo/sager vbios, an updated version of this wont work.

No my 6990M is dead. I am trying to upgrade the GPU in my laptop to hopefully gain another 2 years... Wish I would've had the 3 year warranty.

Thanks for the response, Do you know exactly which Vbios version it would need to be?

Only MSI 80.04.33.00.24 and Clevo 80.04.29.00.01 GTX680M vBIOS work on P1x0HM.

    yeah, 6990m was bad

I am also wondering if I need another bracket or whatever if I decide to get an nvidia 680m.

You probably do, most resellers of cards should have them so ask when ordering.

    I recently upgraded my finally un-bakeable 6990m to a 670m.

My reseller sent me new brackets and thermal paste but they pretty much look identical to my old ones, just shinier.

I didn't have to update any vBios, just install a modded Nvidia Driver for the system to recognise the GPU model.

    1. Yes and the 4gb version with correct vbios
    2. 7970m v1.2 with possible blind flash enduro off vbios if not already flashed
    3. From memory yes I went from 6990m to 680m everything identical. Make sure base bracket is on the 680m most important usually glued on.
    4. Can you name your screen.? have two auoptronics v4 and v5 and it works fine and was an issue with P170HM not P150HM this model should be fine.

    Any further questions ask. :)
Ps- finding a 680M clevo 4GB is no easy task.
I have 6990m lying around I keep for rainy day and 4870m. :)

Interesting - so the 2Gb versions out there (Ebay etc) even those which say MSI/Clevo won't work? There are a few choices available for 4Gb which also state Clevo, but those are certainly more expensive ($750 US+).

Not too sure about that card, might be best to email your reseller and double check. They might even be able to sell you a 670 at a cheaper price.
The heatsink on that auction looks a bit different. Also he said it came out of a MSI so I don't think it would work.

My upgrade to the 680M went pretty well - only thing I've noticed is that the video doesn't come back when the computer recovers from sleep or hibernation. Is there any way to fix, or do I just need to fully disable all hibernation?

You need to disable it...the BIOS is missing the ACPI resume code for this card.

Is the latest .14 BIOS is missing the ACPI resume code for GTX 675M card as well? If so, would it make a difference if the card is flashed with GTX 580M VBIOS v70.24.2B.00.06?

675M and 580m are technically the same card, but i cannot confirm that flashing a 580m vbios will solve the problem, or not brick the card.
Beware the v70.24.2B.00.06 vbios is for an alienware, correct 580m vbios for clevo seem to be 70.24.26.00.01
Don't forget to backup your original vbios before flashing the new one.

I don't think the 675M cards would flash to 580M successfully.

I did flash successfully...in fact, i tried flashing 3 different 580M VBIOSes, including stock & modded ones - they work the same as 675M VBIOS. Unfortunately, they do not appear to solve these sleep/resume issues I have, which Prema explained above. Beginning to think I'll be forced to go all the way back to 580M to make this go away

Or just disable sleep/hibernation and shut down your laptop when not in use. I went with a 680m rather than the ATI because I wanted full HDMI functionality, and having to turn my computer off by myself isn't that big a price to pay.

this has been discussed at length in another thread on tech inferno forums....I'll summarize and just say no sleep option is a deal breaker for me. Cannot use your suggestion to shut down every time - for me, it is a big price to pay and a HUGE pain. BTW I also went with 680M before, and I am returning that 680M for this very reason.

I have restored these the latest .14 BIOS and .13 EC and installed back the original GTX 580M card, with a stock VBIOS. I have selected the recommended Balanced power plan in Power Settings, and have reset its values to defaults. The graphics driver, installed on my system is the latest 344.80 nVIDIA driver available. Despite that, my Clevo P150HM laptop is *STILL* unable to enter sleep mode or wake up from it, and reboot doesn’t work either – laptop shuts down instead. I have also tried resetting the BIOS settings to default, and tried both AHCI and IDE modes in the BIOS. I'm out of ideas what's going on. :mad2: Running Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit with latest Microsoft updates.

Any advice on how to fix these issues, or at least a clue what is going on would be very much appreciated
