I'm thinking of purchasing a Sager NP9262 with an Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 CPU. That CPU has a TDP of only 65WATTS.

Intel is going to be releasing Socket 775 Core 2 Quad CPUs that have a TDP of only 65WATTS in January. The one I am interesed in is the Q9550s.

Would I be able to successfully upgrade this laptop to a Socket 775 Q9550s 65WATT CPU when it comes out? Or would there be problems with the BIOS and voltage specifications?

many people already have the 45nm LGA775 quad-core CPUs in the D901C

First of all, pretty much any CPU that can be used on the desktop Intel P965 chipset... other than the ~100w+ CPUs.

    Dual Core - LGA775:
    65nm - E4x00, E6x00, E6x50, X6800
    45nm - E7x00, E8x00

    Quad Core - LGA775:
    65nm - Q6600 (G0-stepping), Q6700 (G0-stepping)
    45nm - Q8x00, Q9x00, Q9x50

The fastest supported CPU in each category:
    - Dual Core: E8600 (3.33GHz 1333FSB 6MB L2 cache)
    - Quad-Core: Q9650 (3.00GHz 1333FSB 12MB L2 cache)

just make sure to update the BIOS prior to the upgrade.

They work fine, though there may be a BIOS update to officially support the CPUs.
