Got my Sager NP9170 from LPC-Digital last year and love it.
With the purchase came a offer for Win8 pro for $15. This offer expires at the end of this month.
I thought I would give Win 8 a shot so I tried to download it.
Well I have now entered the Microsoft 7th circle of hell. Actually maybe I have avoided it.
You see when you register for the offer with MS they send you a email with a promo code and a link to start the download.
All goes well till you get to a screen that says "We can't connect to the Internet right now try again later"
Looking on line this is or was a common error.
Now I am probably a level 7 geek I know more than the "support" people I spoke with.

Anyway after trying many different solutions including throwing a dead chicken over my left shoulder while chanting Bill Gates name....I gave up.

Has anyone on here got the "upgrade Assistant" to work?

That likely came from heavy server load. How many times did you attempt it? I started the process for laughs one time and didn't have any trouble whatsoever.

Probably have tried 10 times over the last few days.....Not real urgent as Win7 is fine for me......but still kinda pisses a fella off.

That's odd, I haven't heard of too many people having trouble with the process. I'd suggest trying again in an off hour like in the morning or late at night and see if that helps. If you continue having trouble you'll have to do the dreaded and contact Microsoft support to see if they have a way of fixing that for you. They might even be able to give you the product code which would allow you to download a copy from a torrent or something of the like and use your product key to register.

In my sig, I provide a link to install Windows 8 with the full installer, if you already have purchased the key and have the Windows 8 key.

You don't need that, if you have the Windows 8 key. You can upgrade through the Digital River links.

Are you using IE9 or an alternate browser? And have you cleared your cache before trying to access that link again (including the DNS resolver cache)?

Rather than trying to download the assistant again and connect to the site, I would advise simply contacting Microsoft support via telephone (or email, if you don't mind playing the waiting game).

Even if you upgrade, you still need a Win8 key. The upgrade key also works for standalone, new, fresh installs. What do you think I have on my machine? You think I paid $150 for it? Heck no, I paid $15. The upgrade utility just helps you in the upgrade process, but you still have to pay for the key. I would just look for a way to pay your $15 before January is up.
