When the new Dual Core Sagers come out in April, do you think that it will be possible to upgrade the processor to the new Merom's coming out in september or are the platforms completely independent and impossible to upgrade.

The Core Duo > Merom upgrade is going to require a BIOS update. There is no telling of whether or not that will be avaliable, and we won't know until after Merom is released.

Rule of thumb - buy a notebook with the CPU you want.

    Yes, it has 512MB.

Well, I'v been in contact with Clevo's R&D, they say that the revision of the M570A (Sager NP-5720) will have a Mobility Radeon X1800PRO. . . no other details though. I posted somewhere about it I think.

I wouldn't return it. You will really only reap the benefits of a dual-core right now if you are doing heavy multitasking.

What are you doing that would benefit from the dual-core?

Get rid of weather bug, and most of all, ditch AOL! That is the worst software you can have on your computer.

I was working on my neighbor's computer last week, and this week after they called me saying it had problems so I could fix it - they had installed Weather Bug. That is terrible, be sure to ditch it.

If you are using AOL instant messenger, get rid of it and get Trillian, Gaim, or pretty much anything but AOL.

In order to get the best performance out of your notebook, there is a tune-up guide in the Articles section, give that a read. :)

    Cheers

Remember that 99% of PC users have a single core processor, so applications will be able to run on them for a long time, I'm going to say at least another four-five years.

By the time dual-core is necessary, you'll have a new computer. :)

    Cheers

Dual cores are in the same class as SLI and 64bit processors they are available but the software is not really making any use of it atm. I agree with Chazman you are fine for another couple of years. Windows Vista (blah)
