I'm wondering when the 17" matte screen upgrade will be available again? I'm assuming they're sold out everywhere. I know they're not at Xotic PC right now, which is where I'm looking. They're also sold out here, which would lead me to believe no one else has them.

They're coming in for sure? Xotic told me they probably won't ever get their matte screens in again.

Yes just waiting for shipping confirmation but thats our target. Lets just put it this way, we've paid for them, they better ship :p

Also if they DO go quickly we'll be placing another order direct with AUO and we can get as many as we want, it'll just take longer (See my first post)

    Dude, thats

Okay, I'm hoping I can get the screen through Mythlogic, but does anyone know where I can buy a 17" matte screen myself?

    Hey,

Just to let everyone know we got shipping confirmation of 8 B173HW01 V5's that are on their way to us. Should be here on Friday, but we're taking interested people already, just hit our site and pick the option and hit "send to sales" and we'll get you in line. Once we test them then we'll get payment squared away in the order they are received. We'll be doing the same thing on the 90% glossy's once we get that shipping confirmation.

I'm having a little trouble understanding whats going on. Does this only effect the 17" matte screens?

The 17.3" matte screens are in VERY short supply, but can still be had as they are still being made in small quantities, but we can get them when we can get them.

The 15.6" 95% matte screen is no longer made, and when we run out they are gone.

Drat, that puts me in quite a pickle. On the one hand I really want the matte screen because I love matte screens (have one on my desktop) but the new 5165's with the 555m gpu are right around the corner. So right now I guess its matte screen vs. better gpu.

Are you comparing the 555m to 460m? Why do you say the 555m is better?

But Nvidia designates performance by the prefix, then the card number:

GT < GTX - see below

That sounds like a crappy screen, only 6 bit and 72% color reproduction.

Is the 90% glossy at least 8 bit? Otherwise it makes me wonder, what is this crap with 6-bit screens on $2000+ laptops? If HP and Dell can have real quality screens why not here? I'm hoping that 90% glossy is the real deal and if anybody has the specs I'd appreciate a link. 170 looks like a great laptop ( have its predecessor and it's still running like new ), but I would really need the best possible screen to go with it.

    Datasheets.

There is no stock screen that outclasses the V.4 option.

Dell and HP do have better defaults than the one Clevo chose, that's for sure.

    Weird.

It says 1920x1050 not 1080? (typo?)

Plus it says 262K RGB 6-bit?

Other than the RGBLED and IPS options out there, I know of no other screens that go beyond 6-bit.

Thanks for the info. Yes, that's why I'm considering Sony f series. I passed on the previous vaio F version with matte RGBLED and the latest one is the 3D screen which seems to be 8-bit as well. The thing I hate about Sony is all the crap they pre-install so you have to waste time re-installing and 170 just seems better if you take out the screen out of the equation, but that's about the most important part of the machine. I'll have to find some place where I can actually see the two and figure out whether it's at least close enough quality wise ( screens ).

Do note that the V.5's color gamut is only 72%, to the V.4's 90%.

Okay, posting in here to avoid making a new thread. I spoke with Jeremy from Xotic just now and he said the 120Mhz screen will NOT work with my setup, as I have heard before. Any news when some new matte screens will come out? I'm more concerned with the 120Mhz than the 3D itself. I couldn't consider it a good buy if I buy a 60Mhz screen for more money than the 120Mhz screen that is available.

Thought posting here would be a good idea, as opposed to starting another new thread.

Any word on new matte screens? How about 120Hz screens? I'm under the impression the current 120Hz screen won't work at all with my setup, including regular old 2D. Is this right? What's the model number and where can I buy it if it would in fact work.
