    Hello!

I have a Clevo P170SM-A/Sager NP8278 laptop, and I've been wondering if it's possible to upgrade its GPU, which is currently a GTX 870M. Could it be upgraded to either the 970M or 980M? I've been trying to do research on this but haven't found enough information that fully clarifies everything.

I've seen that some video cards require what sounds like quiet a bit of work like messing with the BIOS, modded drivers and hardware mods. If possible I'd like to try to avoid too much trouble with upgrading the card.

Does the 970M or 980M require any extra work, or would it be as simple as plug and play with the official drivers? Would I have to upgrade the bios? Do either of these cards need a stronger power supply or is the included one enough (I think it's 230W)? Is over heating a concern with putting either of these in this laptop? Are the cards vendor specific and I would need to get a certain version, or would any 970M/980M work? Any other GPUs I should consider?

I would be very grateful for any help and advice on this!

It is possible but the question is can you get the card cheap enough to be worth it?

Definitely possible, got my 970m for £100 and that was decent. With an undervolt it barely touches 50w

It can vary by region and where you are looking is the only thing.
