    Hi all,

I am thinking of upgrading my laptop, current spec is 2630QM, 6970m, 8GB DDR 3 1333 RAM, 128GB m4 crucial SSD and 500gb HDD. HM67.
I was thinking of upgrading my processor to 2840QM (link below) would this work on my laptop?
I was originally thinking of upgrading to the 7970m but I've heard its has it difficulties...
If anyone can give me some advice I will be much grateful!

    Thanks

The 7970M doesn't really have any difficulties.
Only HDMI output wont work (possibly also no DVI out).

It's the best GPU for the HM notebooks because you don't get the enduro problems that the EM notebooks get with the 7970m.

BTW I don't see the link for the 2840QM.

You can sell the 6970m for $300+ after a quick look on ebay, and I see a guy selling Clevo 7970m's for $425 on ebay as well. Sounds like that is your upgrade :3

Get the 7970m from a reseller it vendor. Cheaper than the eBay quote, plus comes preflashed to work on HM. :)

Edit. Not cheaper, but only $5 more. :)

Upgrading processor is waste of money and it will not give you huge performance. Go with amd 7970m as users suggested this to you because it will boost your game quality a lot in comparison to your 6970m

You know there is more than one "guy" who works here :p So that kind of hurts ;)

FYI thats us that are selling them on Ebay for that price. You can skip the ebay hoopla and just PM us too heh.

mate the 7970M is the best card atm, given that u have either a HM or Alienware, and guess what? u have a HM; :) and take it from a reseller, so that it comes preflashed to suit ur HM

    ull thank us :)

talking about cpu-upgrades,heres a very interesting article by notebookcheck (in german, but google translate is ur friend ;)) about the gaming capability of IB cpus coupled with a highend mobility gpu (in this case a 680m). basic conclusion: as long as its a quad u dont have to worry about anything in most games,no matter which model! even a highly clocked dualcore is still fast enough for most games :)

    cheers!

There was a 25% difference in frame rate between the 3610QM and 3820QM in guild wars 2.

Also they tested BF3 single player, while it's the multiplayer that is much more intensive.

I believe the performance difference between 2630Qm and 2840Qm is bigger than the one between 3610Qm and 3820Qm. Still, if he only plays games the upgrade might not be worth it. Pretty sure that GW will get performance optimizations, and it is still just one game.
