    I got a friend running gtx 470m + 2630qm in P170hm

he is interested to buy my gtx 680m 4 gb (clevo version - running dell bios ..its currently in my m18x running now)

    so can he upgrade it?

    1. does he need new heatsinks?

    2. Any need to update the system/mobo bios in p170hm?

    3. my gtx 680m is running dell bios now...though it is a clevo version...so can i just take it out from my m18x and install in his p170hm? will it be just plug and play and fine?

or do i have to do sth before that? can i flash the clevo vbios in my 18x?

so please help me out guys

You will want to flash it in the M18X to the clevo system bios and make sure it's the original clevo/sager version as later ones wont work.

    1. Heatsink should be fine
    2. Yes update motherboard bios to latest
    3. You will need clevo vbios on 680m. Flash this onto the card before removing it from m18x. The vbios is this one 80.04.29.00.01

Make sure you paste with icd7 correctly and then grab a beer sit back and hope she boots up ok.

Is your friend living close to you, or out of state? The reason is because you can just pull out the card and test fit into his laptop and verify the heatsink.

Im not sure if it will be worth the upgrade and all the headache that comes from it.
There is also a great risk involved (every time you swap hardware in you laptop, new cooling paste jobs, blind flashing bioses and stuff).
The price of a gtx680m is not gonna be low enough, then you have to worry about selling the old gtx470m.

Just sell the old laptop (its working fine, so it should sell fast) and buy a new one with something like a gtx760 or gtx765m, this should be better alltogether.
    Why would it be better:
1.) new generation card, lower power consumption vs the gtx680m
2.) new processor, definetely faster than the sandy bridge 2630 he now has
3.) new chassis, possibly with backlit keyboard if he wants it
    4.) PROFIT!!

The 765M is only half as fast as the 680M though :/

its subvendor shows dell but bios version is 80.04.29.00.01 (P2051-b002) isnt it the default bios of clevo? or for p170em?

because if it was flashed to dell wouldnt it be 80.04.33.00.01 the default gtx 680m dell vbios?

so what should i do guys? keep it as it is? or can someone pm me the default clevo bios for gtx 680m?
