    Hi guys,

I just learned that you can upgrade the CPU and GPU in the Sager NP9150. This is the first laptop I've seen that can do that!!! Anyway, would the motherboard be compatible with the fourth generation Intel processors (when they come out)? I'm not too familiar with compatibility and stuff, so I'm not sure how that all works. And has anyone tried upgrading their old Sagers to the 7970m or anything like that?

    Thanks

No one can tell you compatibility with non-existent hardware, but there is a reasonable chance the answer is no with regards to a next gen processor. New generations of processors often come with new socket types that aren't compatible, and even if they are it's sometimes with a bottleneck of some sort (though that seems to be more with AMD processors than Intel - intel generally just changes the socket altogether & there's no backward compatibility.)

I haven't messed with upgrading GPUs in laptops before, so I can't speak to how far into the future there's a likelihood of being able to upgrade. From the sound of some of the discussion, that may have more to do with driver updates than physical compatibility.

The next gen probably wont work as YAYTech mentioned because of the new socket types. You can get the refresh of current generation ones to work though. When the 3610QM eventually gets replaced by a faster 3rd generation 36XXQM one it should work.

New Gen, new sockets ... No compatibility (until proven not so)
