I believe I need to do a Bios update on my laptop. It does not recognize the new 320g sata drives. The current bios version ends in 05. is there a later version?

The latest KBC/BIOS for the D900K is:

    KBC/EC .05
    BIOS .09

Ensure you flash the KBC/EC first if you don't already have version .05 of that.

The updates are linked in my post, just click on the versions.

KBC/EC firmware is the KeyBoard Controller/Embedded controller - it controls your keyboard and cooling system mainly.

Read the Clevo BIOS thread here before updatng if you have any doubts/questions.

Thanks, I was able to get the updates installed. I still do not see the new drives. I assume there is no way to make sata 2 drives work on this computer. The new drives do not have a jumper setting on them for sata 1.

usually SATA II drives have a setting that is available through software from the manufacturer - usually dos based. You would need to get hold of the software and put the drives in a computer that supports sata II, then set them to SATA I mode using this program - what make/model are the drives?

Unfortunately for me they are Hitachi. I have the program but I do not have a computer to set them. Funny I bought them because the last drives were hitachi. do you know of a program that will let me change them using USB? I have a USB adapter.

I am just guessing they are set wrong. The bios does not see them.

    Thanks,
    I appreciate the help

Here is the hitachi feature tool, but you will need to run it on a PC which supports SATA II - you must have a friend/relative/coworker who will let you borrow their PC for 10 mins?

Thanks, I gave it a try on another machine. Even Though the bios can see the drives the Hitachi software would not see them and set the drives up.

Just a note. Sager Tech says only SATA1 drives period.

How odd, you are running the bootable version of the software (ie burnt the iso to cd and booted off it) and running the drives connected to an internal sata-II port, right?

yes, I am running the bootable iso. and it is an sata2 port, It is ok, I have given up for the moment. I have had the drives in and out of that machine 10 times. I'm not going to do it again without a pair of sata1 drives. I put the one new drive in a usb encloseure for back up files. And im using the other one for a paper weight.

it is typical that the design engineer has never considered how someone will be able to upgrade and use the drive. companies hire the cheapest labor possible (young engineers) and pray the risks are low enough so they do not have to worry about it.

In my case the risk was good because the boxes for the drives are at the bottom of a big trash can, so returning them is not an option.

    thanks,
    Chuck M.
