So it's been a few years since I've been on this forum and current with laptop hardware. I've had my P150HM basically unmodified since I bought it in 2011(ish? I can't remember now). I've also got my Lenovo x220. I'd like to combine them and do an upgrade to something in roughly the same size and battery life as my 12" Lenovo, lighter and thinner than my P150HM, and still able to do some light gaming. I'll be dumping both and trading in for just this one. I've been looking at the W230SS model, but the rumors are that the W230SD will be coming soon with minimal changes and a rebrand for the 960m.
Notebookcheck indicates I should expect a decent GPU bump over my 485m with even the 860m, though it's a shame there aren't any laptops (that I've seen) that can do a 970m in a 13.3" model.
I'm leaning towards Mythlogic right now because they can do a 3k panel upgrade in the W230SS (listed as the Chaos on their site) plus all the other goodies I want. Am I likely to see any benefit waiting for the 960m?
Any other recommendations that can meet the following specs? As stated the W230SS seems to check all these boxes
- at least 860/960m graphics. 970+ would be even better
- minimally support for 1 mSATA and 1 HDD (9.5mm, not a 7mm restriction like my x220)
- 13" display or smaller* with 1440p or better
- <$2000
- 4-5 hours battery life on optimus/non gaming and bonus if it's removable, so I can swap them out down the road
- A power brick that isn't actually brick sized
- <5lbs
*can be larger if the overall machine meets the <5lbs limit, as I'm not opposed to a 15.6" as long as it's not as bulky and annoying as my p150HM.

There is the Gigabyte P34W V3 which has a 14" IPS screen with 970M GPU.. It's also < $2000, has 4-5 hours battery life in optimus and can support 1 mSATA and 1 HDD... It's also only 1.6kgs in weight.. Main problem is that it has a 14" screen.. In 13.3" you'll be limited to 860M/960M...

I was waiting for p34w v3 and got disappointed by the reviews...Noisy, hot, short on-the-battery time and throttling without power supply by almost 50%. If you have a nice desktop and looking for mobile work/play machine that you can specifically use on the battery, you will be probably disappointed by p34w v3.
The only machines in that category are AW13 with Broadwell(dual-core ul with good battery life), w230SS/w230SD (4-cores but less battery life) and razer edge (too expensive IMHO)
As far as 960m, we are anxiously waiting next week. Some people say that it is going to be rebadge of 860m OCed by 70-90 Mhz, some reports has recently surfaced that it is going to be down-clocked 965m. I am keeping my fingers crossed for later. -
Thanks guys. As you can see from my sig, I did a bunch of reading and catching up here. It looks like the P650SG was the best compromise between my two current machines. It's bigger than I was originally looking for, but the weight is 40% less than my current P150HM and it's 6x more powerful. It checked nearly all the boxes I was looking for- though battery life at 3-4 hours is low, but I can deal with that for the power. There isn't much out there that can do the 8+ hours of my Thinkpad.
The 4K IGZO Matte screen, 980m, and slim form factor are what sold me. It wasn't even a huge price premium over a W230SS.
Upgrading and downsizing from P150HM (np8150) and Lenovo X220
