    Hey all,

So let me first say I'm very happy with my NP8690, with it's i7 820QM and GTX280m it's serving it's purpose (mostly gaming) very well...

But, looking to the future, I'm considering purchasing the future version of the NP9285...basically to gain the desktop processor and larger hard drive capacity and (possibly) dual sli setup of whatever card is the best.

My question is, has anyone switched from a 15 inch to a 17 inch (or 18.4) and thought it was worth it? (i.e. NP8690 to NP9285) Are there any issues like heat or cost that make it too much trouble?

Portability isn't much of an issue with me...I just like to keep my laptops for minimum two years, and I figure that a 17incher would contain the best components to ensure it can run with the best for the longest...

    Anyone find the same?

The only drawbacks are the increased size and weight. If neither of these bother you, there shouldn't be any reason to hesitate.

Yep, I moved from 15" to 17" and find it more suitable for my needs (gaming, work, video, etc). I can hardly ever go back to 15" again. The weight and size is not an issue, with a nice backpack you won't even notice ;)

^I'm so sick of gaming on this 15.4"; I'm definitely making the jump to 17" this year.

The screen size is fine for me. I just hate gaming on the chiclet stype keyboard.

Have to agree with that. Strangely though, Clevo is almost entirely switching to those, and they target the gaming segment only, lol. And with the ultra glossy screens + 16:9 they also destroyed the possibility of the business (workstation) usage. Weird.

If you're going to use it as a primary gaming rig then 17" is a wise choice.

But I must say that I had 17" for the last 1.5 year and my eyesight went down -0.75 on both eyes. Also every time I saw same games as I had but played on a normal size screen I was like "oh that looks so much better than on my 17".

Thats why this time I decided to go for 15" and an external monitor. The truth is that even most expensive and the best laptop screens won't substitute for a good ~£200 20"+ monitor.

Although I might be an unique case as for the last year while at home I used my laptop in the same spot. And those times I have to be on the move I think I can sacrifice gaming experience for the sake of mobility. Well we'll se how it works out.
