I bought a NP9750 about a year and a half ago and was wondering what I would have to do to upgrade my graphics card to something like the Geforce 8800M GTX/S. Is it a simple remove-and-replace procedure or does other hardware/software need to be updated concurrently or in advance? If it's the latter, could someone tell me how complicated/expensive such a process would be? If it's the former, how complicated is it to fish around the inside of the case (I have yet to open it at all)?

Currently my NP9750 has a Geforce Go 7900 GTX and AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+.

Any information would be really appreciated, thanks! If you need to know more about my computer before posting a response, just let me know.

You can't upgrade it to DX10 cards....

The highest option for your notebook is the Go 7950 GTX and that's about, so there is no point...

The newer nVIDIA cards are using a completely different form factor from the NP9750's graphics slot, unfortunately, and the power draw and heat output are too high for the chassis to handle reliably.

As much as everyone would love to see a notebook that really has upgradeable graphics, it is still a pipe dream, because of just how controlled an environment a notebook really is.

A mobo swap would probably do the trick. But the thing is that this particular laptop is not in bussiness anymore.
As for the thermal outputs, the 7950GTX needs 45 W, exactly the same as the 8800M GTX.The 8800M GTS will need even less.

nope. mobo swap is not available for the previous D900K chassis.

    Thats it.

7950 Go GTX (Clevo proprietary module) is the highest card you can get with this notebook.

Clevo did not design a MXM type gaming notebook until the M570RU and D900C.

Yeah, I know, I was being sarcastic, as to the whole 8800M situation. Still the 7950 is quite the performer, so well worth an upgrade.

It's an overclocked version of the 7900GTX, and no, it's not worth it...

Over the 7900 GTX , no, it`s not. Over say, a 7800GTX it is.
However, sadly,it`s not upgradeable, regardless of the boost in performance.

If you want a bit more performance, you could look into overclocking your Go7900GTX, it probably has some headroom. All at your own risk though. :)

agree'd, just take alook at a few benchmarks that I have presented around this forum.

my 7900gtx has become a serious force to be reckoned with!

so the 8700's can get 11000 3dmarks but my card can open a can of wupazz on them. I have beat them in every single FRAPS benchmark I have gone against. (in high res like 1600x1050 and 1900x1200)

    in OBLIVION, Crysis and Bioshock.

now the dual 7950's are another story.

I can match and even succeed 1 if not overclocked but I have my card @1.32v with a delta, so they are pretty much the same.

    look into it.

The 8700M-GT doesn't hold a candle to the Go7900GTX/Go7950GTX, that's for sure. There were some big debates about that when it came out but now it's rather well-established on these forums that the 8700M-GT just doesn't stack up. I remember a lot of people got upset when I put the 8700M-GT as a "Performance" instead of a "High End" card in the GPU Guide . . . true high-end cards have 256-bit memory interfaces. The Go79x0GTX is a true high-end card and should be a good performer for some time yet.

Thanks for the informative responses. I'll try overclocking my Go7900GTX then, although to tell the truth I've never overclocked anything before. I'll fish around the forums and Google a bit then :].

Easy enough, get Riva Tuner and fry your GPU :D
Just monitor the temps at all time, and do not go over 90 C.
There`s a guide from Gophn about that, check into it.

he has a 7800gtx, i don't know about that card but I am know a bundle about the operating temps of the 7900gtx. and plenty of oc'd cards go between the temps of 80-95. and they are fine.

just be sure to polish off that stock thermal compound and place on some As5.

I have been running for months and months without a single problem.

keep the fans clean and dust free. heck I disassemble my whole machine 2-3 x a year to inspect and clean, replace fans, as I have a ample supply of spare parts.

just make sure to monitor the temps to watch for danger temps and spikes... which would indicate overheats from dust clogs.

    yup, definently. ^^^^

I have never overheated once. but that's because of keeping her clean.

Also the closest I have ever had my 7900 hit close to Cut-Off 102 degrees it was Crysis and 95-96 degrees.

but my card is working like a champ. ;)
