Hey there. So its been about 9 months now since I've had my 8170 and I am looking to update it and upgrade it with some new parts. I do have a few questions though.
First, over the course of these 9 months I have no yet to update my BIOS which I understand should be important to keep up to date but I never have had a problem with my computer (Minus the few yet rare blue screens I got at times), and I believe that if something is not broken then do not try to fix it which is why I haven't updated them by now. So should I consider updating them and if so where can I find the BIOS for me? I think I have Sager BIOs cause I ordered mines from a vender (XoticPC)
Second. When I purchased my computer I sort of jumped the gun too soon and was not able to choose the option of having a HD vivid screen. I have been stuck with the stock one for a while so I am interested in putting a new screen in it but I am not sure which one is the best and affordable.
Last, I also want to find a new video card for my laptop. Currently I am running the GTX 460m and although it is still pumping strong, there are better cards out there which are affordable so I was wondering for some opinions on the Radeon HD 6870 (is it even available for the laptop?). Is its performance good for its price?

No one has any suggestions?

I'm still getting up to snuff on laptop parts but in general one would need to know what your budget is before anyone can recommending any parts. I will be watching closely to see what you end up doing because after years owning gaming laptop I have never been able to upgrade a video card.

Well I have a sager 8170 and one aspects about it is that I can upgrade it and the video card is one of the things thats able to be upgraded. I do know what you mean though because most laptops can not be upgraded. I do have a budget I just wanted to see what was out there first.

You can upgrade the video card yourself, but it's going to be pricey. Most cards with better performance than the 460m will run $500+ for the card and heatsink. The screen is something you can always buy separately as well for $150-200 and swap for the old one.
Memory and hard drives are standard parts and easy to replace (and are relatively inexpensive). -

Hey Peezy, sorry I didn't reply earlier! If you'd like to get some pricing on upgrading feel free to contact my service department at [email protected] with your serial number on your laptop. We'll talk with Sager and see what kind of options you have.
