How do you upgrade ram in the P150EM? I got the 8 gb 1600. I read that the keyboard sockets aren't user upgradeable but there are sockets underneath the keyboard and ones at the bottom. Am I correct in interpreting that they put the 8gb into the sockets underneath the keyboard and we're able to place additional ram into the bottom sockets? What's the reason for the keyboard sockets being non user upgradable?

I think they are... Its just harder to get to it, since apparently there is a trick to get the keyboard out.

If it's the same as the HM, it's easy. Just lever the speaker grill off from the edge, then remove 5 obvious screws, lift keyboard. The ram is underneath. Upgrade at will. Took me about 5 minutes.

I have upgraded the RAM underneath the keyboard recently, too. I found this video from XoticPC helpful showing how to easily remove the panel above the keyboard on a P150HM.

If the panel still doesn't come off right away, get some wooden tooth picks to lever the panel off. Worked quite well for me.

I noticed one problem though after installing the 2nd set of 2x4GB 1600MHz modules the whole system was running at 1333MHz all of a sudden. I described it further here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/662583-sager-np9150-upgraded-ram-now-running-1333-mhz-instead-1600mhz.html

I would be interested to learn if you run into the same problem with the RAM clocks after upgrading.

    Cheers!

I went from 6gb of 1333 to 8gb of 1600. Haven't had any problems with speed.
I see in the video the grill is removed by pushing it from underneath, however it is possible to get it off by levering from the top, preferably with plastic tools.

I think the clocks problem only happens when you use all four RAM slots. At least that's what some users reported with their P150HMs and I had the same problem with my P150EM. Use two slots and they run at 1600MHz. Use all four and the maximum clock is 1333MHz - at least for some machines.

The clock speed is a limit of NP9150's with Sandy Bridge processors, I believe.

I just installed another 8GB 1600 RAM, now total 16GB. Still running at 1600MHz and I have the i7-3610QM, so yes I think it depends on the CPU.

oh thats BS, weve never had issues running 1600 or even 1866 mhz modules on the HMs :) its true that the 2630/70qm only support up to 1600 but thats about it. the em series are actually capable of up to 2133 speeds, according to bios analysis by prema. the thing about the 4 modules not supporting higher speeds was just some weird note that was mentioned in the HM manuals but that just wasnt true :)

    cheers
