I am thinking of upgrading my P150HM GPU from 485m to 680m, could someone recommend a good European site to purchase one from, and could you please detail exactly what i would have to do to get it up and running, ie BIOS, Drivers etc.
Cheers

I can't help you with finding a European distributor of the card, but here is what I needed in order to install the 680m in my P150HM:
1. Updated the BIOS to version 1.01.14 and the KBC/EC to 1.00.13.
2. Installed the 304.79 beta driver from NVIDIA, along with the modded INF supplied by LaptopNut. I have read that the latest 306.02 beta driver from NVIDIA does not require the modded INF, but I haven't installed it yet myself to verify.
That's it! Good luck locating one, they're great.
Edit: All drivers are going to need a modded INF until we get a BIOS fix. -
Where did you get yours from mate?
-
Prema from this forum mentioned selling some but I think he must have sold all of them by now.
I got mine from RJTech but you will get hit with import VAT and admin fees.
I just downloaded 306.02 Beta from the official Nvidia site and they wouldn't install. You can find all of the modified inf's I have done so far from the link in my sig (including 306.02 Beta).
Due to no official Bios support for the GTX 680M in the HM series, the hardware ID will never appear in Nvidia's inf's because it becomes 0000.xxxx -
To install this on a p150hm do you need to update the bios or is it just plug and play?

ur question was already answered to the fullest in the past few posts

I have P150HM with ATI 6990m on board. Bought it in Jan'12. Everything was fine until yesterday. The screen starts to show multiple horizontal lines and then to restart video drivres. with centering the edge of the screen.
I wasn't OCing it, temps are always fine. Below 50, and on load 85.
So, I've updated bios 14, KB/EC 12. to KB/EC 13.
Now the question.
Can I do a blind firmware upgrade for nVidia 680m?
Because everyone selling it with a different vBios then it should be for HM, even if they are specifying '680m for P150hm' in item's name on ebay.
Many thanks in advance. -
You need either Clevo vbios 80.04.29.00.01 or MSI vbios 80.04.33.00.24
The vbios should be flashed before you install the card else you may not be able to blind flash it depending on the current vbios on there, cuz during post the card will try to validate vbios.
Also, you can't use sleep with the 680M cuz when you wake it up screen shows nothing. I'm pretty sure the fans controls work but they kick in way too late so you need a laptop cooler. -
Ok,
does anyone knows where I can get nVidia 680m GTX with 80.04.29.00.01?
E-bay sellers are selling it with '80.04.67.00.01' despite the fact that the item's name and the description contains '680m for P150HM/P170HM'.
Many thanks in advance.
P.s. I'm able to use any 580m GTX on the e-bay market? Will it plug-n-play or I've also need to take care of something first? -

You could always ask if the reseller is willing to flash a bios file you provide.
-
Yeah, they are asking for that $50. The mad world.
$740 (vc) + $50 (fw) + $70 (delivery) = $860. Nah, son. It's better to build a new clevo with something extra over it for that price. -
Ask in the WTB forum. You can get a 7970(best value) for around $350 or the 680M for around $500. Unless you need a 780M or need a more portable laptop, I don't see a need for new computer.

Ok, got it for about 500 Eur.
The problem that it came just as VC, no heating system.
I've installed it by replacing my amd 6990m, but it wasn't fitting very well, I'be been able to fix only by adding the force. Is the heating on the nVidia different? I saw almost no difference in position of the chips on the card itself.
System is booted up fine, no issues, the temperature is 37-39C. But I'm afraid to run the 3d test or games, because of the heat think issue for now. -
welcome to the club. I've been talking to Upgrademonkey and they say it's possible to upgrade up to 780M by "unlocking" the BIOS. no idea how what woud be accomplished tho.
-
Been able to talk with them. They don't know the difference between HM/EM/SM. I told them that they has the wrong pictures for their item, because vbios isn't the same as on picture. They said thanks and just deleted the picture with vbios. Voila solution, and they has continue to tell me that it will work fine on HM.
I assume, they were speaking about Prema's customer BIOS for EM series, which is supports 780m now. -

Which bracket?
-
Which heatsink are you having problem with? The core heatsink should have no problem at all since the Nvidia X-bracket has a taller screw receptacle to account for the guard around the core. The vram heatsink should barely fit with 1 mm thermal pads (0.75 mm is ideal IMO). You may have problem with the screw on position 5. Even though the sticker says to secure screw 5 first, do 6 and 7 first and make sure the heatsink is actually flat when 6 and 7 are almost tight then screw 5 in. Also, if you screw 5 in all the way the heatsink will probably be warped, need a longer screw or just tighten it enough so the heatsink is flat. This is my experience on my system anyways.
Upgrading to 680m, please help
