Ok I admit it I'm really regretting the gloss screen. I can see my reflection half the time, its really annoying for my photoshop work. I was wondering if there are any steps for how to updgrade to a matte screen on my own. Willing to pay up to $200 to change it over.

Seen some info on matte screen filters but dont want air bubbles.

You can always get a matte filter that isn't a stick on. The sell pieces that clip to the monitor and go in front of the screen. It'd be cheaper and no worry of air bubbles.

As for replacing the screen, it's pretty simple. The rubber stoppers around the edge cover the screws. Remove those and the screws, and the frame should unsnap (carefully!). This will expose the the screen. There are metal brackets on either edge attached to the screen. Unscrew those, pull out the ribbon cable on the screen and it should be completely out. Swap in the new screen of your choosing.

You can contact your retailer or check ebay for replacement screens. The service manual has a schematic at the end that shows the exploded view of the screen, which may be more helpful than the above info :)

So is it fair to say the connection from the vid card to the monitor is all the same standard? Will I be able to pick any 17.3" screen?

No, they're not all the same. It can vary pretty significantly between manufacturers and models. I would stick with any of the 17" screens listed in this thread:

The LP173WF1 may be your best bet.

thanks again, + rep again ;) (and my next laptop will probably be malibal cuz you guys are so nice!)

ok guys to anyone who wants to do something similar I was able to find the matte screen for
$153.27 , it is CA so shipping was really bad... like $30 bucks. Be careful the PN is the same for the Glossy style... might be able to find it cheaper other places but I really dont care about $30 one way or the other at this point.
