Looking at the manual, the Microphone port is also the Subwoofer/Center channel. So it looks like it is either one or the other. So with 5.1 or 7.1 output, that port will be Subwoofer and center channel, and there will be no mic port. Is this true, or is there a way around this (other than going usb)?

    Thanks.

There is an internal MIC too but it wont be great. So yes if you want to use 5.1/7.1 and a mic then a USB MIC is your best option.

Thanks for the confirmation. This seems odd, as I thought 5.1/7.1 gaming headsets were popular. I guess most go usb. Thanks again.

They are, and although many go USB now for convenience, the better audio quality is to be had on headsets connecting via 3.5mm stereo jacks for the most part.

But for most multiplayer games, you want a mic for voice chat. And I understand the built in mic is not that good.

Down the road, maybe Christmas, I want to get a good 5.1/7.1 headphone, with mic. Seems maybe the best is use the built in jacks, but get a usb mic as Meaker suggested. I will create a different thread for best headphone. Just wanted to confirm my options with the Sagers.

    Thanks

It's true for any notebook giving 5.1/7.1 unless you just take the optical out for that.
