Hey guys, I did a search on a local classified for gtx 485m and a Sager N8150 showed up. For 950$, it comes with i7 2720QM, 2x4GB ram, 500gb hybrid drive and a blu-ray drive.

I had an Asus G74 before and I am not sure how Sagers compare to that? In terms of graphic power, is it enough for today's gaming?

There is a 10 month review which is helpful, but just wanna know if there are opinions whether should I get this one or if I should save up for N9150 or other newer alternatives.

Currently Im using a desktop, i7 2600k with a gtx 560 ti and 8gb ram. It runs everything I want quite nicely (D3 and SFxT). Im looking to play borderland 2 later on so not sure if this is a good deal?

    Thanks for input:thumbsup:

Thats not a bad price but if you can put in a few hundred more you can get the NP9130. That has the 670M which is very similar in performance to the 485M, get the new i7 3610QM, 16GB of RAM and and 500GB Hybrid. Or as you mentioned go with the NP9150 which has even better GPU options.

Either this or possibly upgrade the your "future" NP8150 with a 680M ... which would equal to buying a new NP9150 so :p

In terms of price for performance, the 7970m would be a much better upgrade, as it's nearly same performance for a much lower price, and without enduro issues on that model. Much quicker for Dirt 3.

True, but might be fixed. Depends if it's an issue for you or not.

Personally if I was getting that laptop in an effort to save some money, I would stick with the GPU it comes with for the moment. It's a perfectly good GPU for current games. There is always the option later to upgrade.

Thanks for the inputs! Budget is a concern which is why I dug the local classified first :p

From what I read regarding benchmarks the gtx 485 should handle what I need for now. And if its as easily upgradable as you guys are suggesting then I would definitely consider this! Just gonna read around more see how that works..

Is the np9130 a new model? Because I didn't see any np8130.. I guess the difference is just gtx 670m vs 680?

Yes the NP9130 replaced the NP8130 around end of April. Besides the new GPU it also has the new HM76 chipset so it supports the new 3rd generation core i CPU's vs the NP8130 using the second gen CPU's. The 3rd gens are about 15% faster.
The video card in the NP8130 was the GTX 560M and the NP9130 uses the GTX 670M, those two are very similar in performance.

So 485m, 560m and 670m are similar in performance? That sounds awesome!

The seller doesn't know if the screen was the upgraded 95% gamut or not... any way to check if it's that or not? Thanks,

Strange that he doesn't know, probaby means he didn't pay for a screen upgrade.

    Also what is the resolution?

thats not quite correct. ive had a 485m myself and it reached scores surpassing those of a 580m/675m with a slight OC.at stock its still about 10% (minimum) faster than a 670m. the 560m is way slower, doesnt play in the same perf league. id say its about 40-50% slower than a 485m

    cheers!

It is 1080p, he said he has no idea about my question but told me to go take a look in person and figure it out... anyway to do that?

GTX 485m is based on the 560 Ti from what I read on the tomshardware articles. I am sure it could handle my games with a slight like you said.

    Cheerios,

You can get a program called HWInfo, there will be a tab for the Monitor then you can google the model number to find the specs.

If he upgraded to the 95% gamut screen he'd know.
