Im still waiting for the 9550 but I ran across something on Xotic this morning when configuring a 9262..

In the graphics card options next to the 8800gtx and the 8800gtx SLI it has "user upgradable" ... is this Xotic's way of saying the 9800 is going to work with the current 9262? Or am I missing something here?

NO, NO, NO. Sorry, I don't mean to yell, it's just that this conversation has been had sooo many times on this forum that it needs to be cut off at the knees.

What the phrase "user upgradeable" means in this context is that the GPU can be removed and replaced by the user. It does not mean, and should not be taken to mean, either directly or indirectly, that the 8800 is ipso facto upgradeable to the 9800.

I will be disappointed if 57xx series once again unable to upgrade to next gen GPU, as it is the whole idea of MXM

Should we ask the moderators to shut this thread down just on general principles?

rumor has it at least thats what was suggested to me (may NOT AT ALL BE TRUE) that the 9800 will not work in the 570ru... this is in no way a def answer but it is what i was told by one of the MANY people i talked to today about the 8800 in the 9262.. but as many other times they might be blowing smoke or lying

Even that's a little too strong in terms of what's posted on the xoticpc website because, quite frankly, to the extent xoticpc (or powernotebooks, or PCMW, or .... yada, yada) knows more than we do, they're under NDA about anything that hasn't been released, and they sure as shootin' aren't going to blow a dumb contract like an NDA that way (if xoticpc wanted to blow its NDA, I'm sure justin could find a slightly more ... creative way to do it :D ).

This bit of ground has been very, very, very well plowed-over, and some hard feelings were exchanged in the last big blow-up, at the end of which is was conclusively determined that, when you see the phrase "user upgradeable" on a reseller's website, it means precisely what I just said it means - that you can physically remove the unit from the computer and plug another unit in physically; it does not in any way, shape, or form mean, suggest, intend, or imply that, if you buy the system now with today's latest and greatest, you'll have any chance at all of being able to buy tomorrow's latest and greatest, plug it into the machine you bought today, and be able to use it.

So, can we drop this thread now?
