Honestly I flashed my 7970m in my p170em a week ago and all I used was the graphic interface, every thing went well. All I did was unrar it to a location double click the .exe and use the gui.

I used on an old Mobility 4870, worked perfectly.
I also used it to flash desktop cards.

However, I would recommend the DOS version.
It has more options and it's safer to use.

So you just opened Atiwinash, loaded the vbios and pressed ok? Did you have to force the gpu on?

I have always used atiwinflash to do my flashing.
    Never gone wrong either.
