I would like to purchase an nVidia 880m for my Sager 9390 and was wondering if it will work. From what I read it will work but requires a third party BIOS update (Prema). I would prefer to stick with the stock Sager BIOS. So I was wondering if anyone else has been able to get this card to work in their 9390 and how you did it? I purchased my laptop around 9/2013 with a 780m installed. The video card needs to be replaced and the 880M is currently similar in price to the 780M which is why I am looking to use that specific card. (BTW I did e-mail Sager about this, but wanted to hear people's personal experiences while I await their reply.)

880M is not an upgrade. Buy a 980M. THAT'S an upgrade. Trust me on this one, because I have that really long reputation bar and I have seen... things... 880Ms do.

    You'll need to use Prema's BIOS, <s>unfortunately</s> fortunately (it's a good thing).

If the 980M is too pricey the 970M is also a good option :)

980Ms and 880Ms cost the same though.

880M is cheaper by 10 dollars on RJTech. ;) (Probably not the main argument here)

I picked up an 880M kit (GPU, heatsink, and other goodies) for $550 on eBay which looks to be a good price. But I see the 970M is $100 less than what I paid, so maybe not such a good deal after all. Oh well, at least now I know another site to checkout in the future :) Thanks for the tips!

I got the 880M more as a replacement than an upgrade. Long story, but laptop had to be parted out last year to pay some medical bills. Just getting it pieced back together and didn't realize the GPU was going to be this tricky. I had spoken to my reseller and they lead me to believe an MXM card would work. I figured since the 880M is basically a slightly better 780M it should work. But after I installed the card the laptop screen did nothing. I hooked up an external monitor via the HDMI port and I was able to get video. However, after rebooting it a few times I'm not getting any video at all now. It's booting to Windows though and I can connect via Remote Desktop. But unless I can flash the BIOS in Windows that doesn't really help, though. Argh

Was the video care you got a Sager/Clevo branded one or another brand like Dell/Alienware because those will not work.

That sounds extremely harsh. I wish you had come here before buying the 880M to ask specifically. Your particular machine would need a BIOS mod to use anything beyond a 780M, but the 880M is a troublesome, throttling, overheating card and not really an "upgrade". 980Ms are however, and the BIOS that would let you use 880Ms would have let you use 980M. The 970M is also a viable upgrade.

Do you have a link to where you got the card?
