Ahoy my friends,
I'm finally catching up to 2004 and getting myself a moderate HDTV; this one is 1080p and features a VGA port, so at least I can avoid the DVI->HDMI adapter fiascos a lot of people are having.
I've rather been assuming I can just locate a lengthy VGA cable; laptop is VGA male of course, and I assume the TV-side will be female.. so I should be able to find a 10' or more VGA cable hopefully.
This should work okay? Are there length issues with VGA cables?
Its not a fancy TV (only 60Hz and not the better 120Hz), but hopefully good enough for CoD4 to shine![]()
Any tips?

(TV is a LG 47", the 47LG50 model.)

Geez, HDMI cables are $9.99CDN up to $249CDN; who the hell pays more than $40 for a digitcal cable? Them gold plated bits!
VGA cable.. looks like I can pick up 10' and 75' cables nearby (male to male mostly, so I'l check TV specs.)
Any degradation on these big cables?

The longer the cable, the higher the chance of interference. Just get a good quality cable that is certified for the distance and resolution you want and you might be ok.

Longer cables mean more signal loss, and higher chances of interference. This is where those $100+ cables really start to shine.
10' though, isn't considered to be THAT long of a distance. Being a distance of about 2 metres, 10' is considered fine for pretty much any quality of cable to still be able to transmit with full signal strength. -
I have a VGA to HDMI with an audio dongle cable attached.
I even massaged 1080p out of it with a Lenovo notebook.
It was given to me so I don't know where it came from but they are out there. -
The resolution question is interesting.. some folks are telling me that various low end cables don't "handle" 1080p very well, so I'm told to ensure I pick up HDMI 1.3 cables.
For VGA, most are telling me 'no worries' until you hit 20' or so.
Good tips!

For VGA, yeah, you're pretty much fine for a couple meters more on top of that, so really there's no worries in your situation. -
You should be able to find any kind of VGA cable you can imagine here.

I highly recommend the site, high quality, low prices. -
Crap, alwaya assumed I had a VGA and a DVI (never really thought about it.)
The 570RU only has DVI (just before HDMI chassis change), so I guess I need DVI->VGA adapter. (DVI=>HDMI apparently has a lot of problems, so good enough for me.)
