Hey all. So I was reading the previous thread about the commission or net profit for the resellers and thought about something regarding the value of these machines. Specifically the 5793 with the standard config of T9300, 320GB, 8800MGTX, 1920x1200 etc.

This setup usually comes in at around 2300 USD. Now I just looked at this Asus M70 which Xotic has for 1550 USD. So we are looking at around a ~700-800$ diff here with the same basic specs EXCEPT of course the 8800M GTX versus the ATI 3650M and to a lesser extent the T9300 versus the T8300 in the Asus.

So are the chip and card alone as an upgrade (ie. price difference) really factor out to 700-800 dollars more do you think? We are talking the price of the 8800M GTX - ATI 3650M 1 GB and T9300 - T8300. The M70 also comes with 2 drives (500 GB in the base configuration I have here).

I know what your saying... why don't you just get the Asus then? Well obviously I would like the power. But what I'm getting at is do you think there is more to that premium you are paying? Is there some other feature of the 5793 that helps push it above the M70 or other 17" notebooks 'sorta' in its class?

    Thanks for your thoughts.

i mean, its definitely business, ur also forgetting about the different mainboard it probably has to support the 8800.. but thats how it always is in technology... everything is a few dollars up from the next best thing... but the jump from the second best to the TOP card, is always way more than the previous jumps. Its like that cuz people will pay that premium to say, I HAVE THE BEST!

    T9300 costs $65 more than the T8300.

The 8800GTX card itself costs $700. Cut the price of the ATI 3650.

The screen will also cost $60 if not more.

THe stronger chassis, heatsink design and superior motherboard asks for sth more.

So that pretty much sums it up...

How much do you think the 3650M costs?

The lead in the price is $825. The 8600GT costs $150 (256MB DDR2) to $200 (256MB DDR3). The radeon if definitely priced below the 8600GT DDR3 model.

So the 5793 is priced somewhat 100 to 75 dollars more.

What doodles said, the 5793 supports the new MXM architecture for graphics card swapping, it also was designed for the x9000 and its OC so i guess there is also some price difference there

Another thing you have to factor in is that the ASUS is not covered by xoticpc's basic 3-year labor/1-year parts warranty, but by ASUS' own 2-year global guarantee, whereas the 5793 is covered by xoticpc's basic 3/1 warranty. Since nothing's for free, that means that xoticpc has to charge a bit more on the 5793 to finance its warranty obligations, a charge that isn't added to the ASUS systems.
