For the first time, I am VERY dissapointed in Sager.
A freind and colleauge of mine needs a new computer, and I recommended Sager. We spec out a good NP2098 comes out to around 1,014 pre tax/shipping. Very excited we headed to a conference room to order.
I know from experiance that most sales people at sager are willing to barter a bit and give good deals, I have heard people getting free upgrades etc so I call in confident we can get a good price, or a free upgrade of some sort.
I talked to a salesman named Frank - first of all, and to my chagrin, Frank seemed rather annoyed from the get-go, usually Sager personel are very freindly and do thier best to work out a deal, of course I usually deal with Brian a sales manager at Sager so maybe that has something to do with it.
Anyway, I tell Frank that I am a previous purchaser and I am here refering a freind and want to see how he can help me get a good deal. I let him know we want to spend somewhere around $900 thinking 960 ish (or lower) would be good.
First Frank is saying No absolutley not, not possible we can't do around 900, not even considering it,
I ask Frank if he can at least give us a free ram upgrade at least to 4 gigs (from 2 gigs only $55) for free. No not possible he says? I say well Frank what can you do us - he comes back with 26 dollars off.......... I say Frank are you really going to lose this sale over $25 dollars? He says "That's fine I don't need it" I say Frank, I know you can do this I have gotten 50+ dollars off for being a student before, factor in me as a repeat buyer, and I know you can give us this RAM upgrade for free.... No he won't do it.
Maybe Im crazy (I do not think I am) but I am really annoyed, as I said I have gotten $50 dollars off a sager system before, and I know people who have bargained for free ram upgrades etc. Needless to say, Franks overall attitude toward getting a sale was dissapointing too.
Also interestingly he out right refused to put a 320 gig hard drive 5,400rpm in even if we paid for it.. said it can't be done?
Whats the deal?

So, in summary, your upset with Sager as a corporation because Frank didn't sell you a computer for less than the standard retail price?
What did the police say? -

Keep in mind a sub $1000 system does not have the margin in it to offer discounts that you are expecting. Sager as with most of us sellers prefer to offer low pricing to everybody instead of offering discounts to those that ask.
-
I'm shocked at the responses in this thread.
@Garandhero: Don't pay full retail. Contact ANY of the larger manufacturers and they will negotiate. I received 11% off my first M17x and 20% off my current order. Call anywhere else and they will take care of you. I wouldn't accept anything less than 10% off. -
Wow! Actually I find this rather rude if I was the vendor who got a customer right of the bat demanding a discount price or else they won't buy. You sir, should be disappointed at the whole retail world.
-
-
Mandrake, there is a difference here. An Alienware are rediculously expensive because of the name, so of course it is easier to get it cheaper if you ask. But this laptop is cheap from the start and you don`t pay extra for the name.
-
Look, if you can negotiate and get better prices on anything...I am all for it. As matter of fact, I do that myself a lot. But to be dissappointed and come out mad at the world because some one is trying to run a business to achieve a certain profit margin is very...lets me say...being a baby. If you don't like it, don't buy from them. Its not their fault trying to sell you a product at a price that was advertised for. -
-
-
I say if you are not satisfied with the price you are hoping to get look somewhere else.
End of story! -
edit - Ah, I see we've reached that conclusion already.. Late to the party. -

Yeah if you can't get the discount you want, just move to another store...
I know Clevo/Sager reseller can do it... -

Maybe frank hasn't seen daylight for 15 hours, his pay has been frozen for 1 year, he is on minimum wage, he hears phones ringing in his sleep and he works in a cubicle.
I wouldn't be upset with the entire company since they don't owe you anything but if that happened to me, I wouldn't get mad about it but I guess everyone is different. -

Yeah, a discount is *nice* and I definitely push for the best price I can get (as any consumer should do), but I don't ASSUME I am going to get a discount and suddenly become offended when one is not given.
And the profit margins on the low end systems are slim enough as is. -
I have been banned before so I didnt want to say it..
But.. spot on..
Not to mention there are others who do carry Clevo if the discount is what the most important thing is?
If buying a D900F.. with dual SSD's and a HDD, 12GB of Ram, i7-975... basicly loaded.. maybe there is some room to negotiate...
But on a low end model.. not so much.. (per Frank.. dont be mad at me Sager)

This thread should have closed after...

rofl @ responses.. im aware sager's are low priced already... Justin your telling me you would'nt have said ok ill take another $25 off and move a system?? in this economy??? I find that hard to believe, i know you're smarter than that who wants inventory now anyway!?... your cash discount is more than that anyway>?!??! lolz.
im just mad because I know they can take at least $50 off i mean thats the standard discount for students at the least....... and also at Franks overall attitude toward a former and potential repeat customer that was reffering a potential new customer. Its just bad salesmanship in my opinion. -
Maybe buy one of those voice scramblers and be all stealth. -

So you can haggle prices off laptops only directly from Sager and not from any reseller?
-
Why are you ordering from Sager? Most of the resellers will sell you at a price below what sager offers. I don't know what resellers margins are on the current machines but if it is anything like 5+ years ago when I bought my older sager most resellers are making between $50-$100 on these sager laptops depending on configurations of course. So asking for another $50 off from a reseller isn't helping their bottom line.
-
Apparently you guys are/were used to get everything you look at by nagging your mother all day long. I`m guessing are. -
Why shouldn't he complain if they HAVE given similar discounts to him and others? Why shouldn't he complain if the salesman is willing to lose a sale over $25? That's just bad business. No one's nagging their mother, it's about being a smart consumer.
-
If only nagging my mother worked liked that... usually all it got me was grounded. -
>.> well contrary to a lot of people that posted I'm more confused as to why you are haggling at all with sager over something like a mere 50$. When you could just buy from a reseller like xotic pc for 100$ less for the same model name and then drop it down again almost another 100$ if you went for the Force khblb2 model.
Sager laptops really are no longer the unknown brand they were a few years ago. They can be found in just about any pc mag at your local store and I've even seen a powernotebooks add. =/ they are the enthusiast brand and they know it. If you want a cheaper price you go through a reseller and I know you know that already..... -
I'm in the Chicago area and I've never seen them in store. Which stores normally carry them?
-
If you did got punished for nagging, you clearly didn`t understand what the reason for the punishment were. -

Frys' is tech geek heaven. I always have to walk out of there buying something. LOL! This thread has totally gone off topic. Well it should of been closed along time ago anyway.
-
But it should be a MONSTER!
The one thing that I really like about the Alienware is the frame.. do they have a sub-woofer? dual lamp 1900 X 1200?
I am not a gamer.. Xbox shooter stuff and the old master chief.. the new one just lacks for me..
Maybe I will get into the new GTA..
I have my heart set on the Clevo 18 inch.. but I want the i7.. the real i7.. so the sli or crossfire is an issue... for now.. (fingers crossed, toes crossed)
Once again Mandrake you are a good sport.. for a Dell guy..
Are you going to do any mods for cooling? when you get it of course?
AND>>>>>>>Did you get Frank at Dell to cut you a deal? if so how much is reasonable.. you are top of the ladder.. so I assume they had a little wiggle room price wise for you?
Be well, JW -
Oh man, Mandrake has been waiting forever for his M17x. And yeah, this is what EVERYONE in AW forum is waiting for, numbers for the 4870 gddr5
-
Ironic isn't it. Sager was willing to give up a sale over a $25 discount. Garandhero was willing to give a negative review over a $25 discount.
The things money will do to people.... -
I actually consider myself a "Thinkpad guy" I only buy Dell's gaming systems.
The only extra cooling I can see necessary is the MCP. Since it's taking on 3 different roles (NB, 9400M, PhysX) it can get hotter than the CPU.
-
I say both parties had issues. That sales rep shouldn't have acted like such a jerk, and Garandhero shouldn't have been so insistent on getting a discount. It's fine to negotiate, or even to walk out if you don't get what you're looking for, but to expect to be given an unadvertised discount, even as a return customer, and get irritated when things don't go your way; that's not cool.
Frank should be fired, but I wouldn't pass judgment on Sager as a whole just because of that. Even the best companies have a few bad employees. They just slip in. If you had mentioned several sales reps you've had bad experiences with it would be a different story entirely. -
Let's keep this thread on the original topic, no more insults, and no more crap posts. I had to delete a ton of them.
If I have to come back, I may just be in the mood to start handing out infractions (which of course I hate to do).
-
The thread needs a positive spin on it and should concentrate more on how to get the best deal from Sager or a Sager third party retailer. Rather than one bad experience where no deal could be had.
-
On another note - Im not giving SAGER a bad review they're systems are dope, im just saying as a customer I was dissapointed especially since I was trying to give sager a new customer and had talked up sager so much - now my buddy is likely to not go Sager unless a reseller can give a better deal, or if we can get a better salesperson at sager direct.
Who knows.... but i do think that Frank guy needs to learn a bit about customer relations and sales.
Very Dissapointed.....
