In every game that ive played (crysis, warhead, far cry 2, etc..) My gpu temp gets around 80c. Plus it overclocked a good deal, and everything works great.
But now i just bought dead space, im able to max everything out, and still get around 70fps avg, according to fraps. So im thinking this game is easy to run??? Well after playing, i checked out my logged temps on my gpu, its 93c!!
Any body have any ideas?? Im running a p8600, and 9800m gt, in a np8660.
I think im using the 178 drivers. I tried the newwer 18X.XX drivers and far cry 2 would always be blacked out everytime.

so u ve overclocked it?
-
Yes i got it clocked to 610/1525/945. But it runs nice and cool in every game, but deadspace. The werid thing is though, that im getting the most fps in deadspace, than any of the other games.
is 93c acceptable?? -
no 93c is quite warm... try bringing the clock speed down a little and see if that makes a diffrence

I would try to get it under 90. don't want it to sneak up on you. things can go from 93 to 100 fast.

There's just something about Dead Space. I get constant driver crashes, only with this game, if I use any level of overclock.
Fortunately, I max at just 84°C, which isn't abnormal for my card.
You're getting such high fps, just because Dead Space is so well optimized. -
My OC is 600/1500/900. I dont know what average fps i get, bet its quite high. Pretty sure its over 70, or atleast 70. -
Alright so it looks im not the only one that is having a problem like this.
Also i didnt think the game looks that great. It seems to have real low quality textures and what not. Kinda reminds me of doom 3, but with more flare.
Anyways, im going to finish far cry 2 (which is awesome), then ill dig into this game. -
Well sorry for my english cause i m a frog.
Right now i dont really understand why people increase rates of their expensive mobile cards ??? Of course it ll become hot in a laptop, and what about the result ? Few fps wins ? it s not a deal for me. Mobile card should stay at stock. -
I get asked this queastion alot, all i have to say is, its the same reason i took the interior out of my bmw m3, and modded it out for the race track. Because its fun. And i f i do ruin it, ill buy another one, if i cant afford one at the time, then ill just deal with out. Not a problem.
I like to take everything i own, and push it just that much farther. Even if the gain is nothing more than 1% -
u better watch out for mobo temp, mobo dies @70c.
-
as soon as his card hits 98c's it's going to down clock the gpu all the way down to 200/100/300 or something like that. or it will start to artifact or experience screen tearing, then the old famous driver quit responding and has recovered from and error nonsense.
or you can try to.... raise the back of the computer up to give it a bit more air flow. this may give you the 5 degrees Celsius you need. it's free and cost nothing. -
Every other game works fine, but for dead space, maybe ill just have to throw a notebook cooler under it (yuck)
I mainly just posted here o se if anybody else was having this kind of issue -
hence why I sold mine. personally didn't trust this laptop to work for more than a couple years until the heat issues started to creep up on it. That's the ONLY downfall - the fact that might right palmrest was much warmer than my left when I did anything on it sucked.
-
you would rather post than try the 1/2 inch lift huh.... *LOL*
edit: it's one game... i bet if you lower the screen resolution, it would also drop temps... -
I think your having 860tu withdrawl -

As soon as I read overclock and re-read the title, I locked off. You want to overclock an already powerful card in a 15.4" chassis and then COMPLAIN when the temps reach 93? (Why didn't you buy a 17" again?)
Why don't you move to the Artic and complain that its too cold while you're at it? -
How could you desecrate an M3 like that!??

O boy..........................
Im not complaining that i hit 93c, im just seeing if anybody else has had this happen. I bought a 15.4 because i like the size, and its portable, so i can carry it around the house. Ive got a 13 inch ibm for work, and a 10 inch msi wind for the car (music, gps)
I pulled apart my m3 for the track, to lighten it up, so i can gain a few seconds per lap.
For the people here who ask why to all of this, heres a example.
I love life, and enjoy it as much as i can. Lets say, I got into collecting action figures. Some people buy them, leave them in the box, and stare at them on the book shelf for years. I understand why people do that and its cool. But me personaly, i would open every action figure, and play the hell out of them. Sure it wont be worth as much money when im 50 years old, but who cares. I can look back on life and say "man i had a good time" Instead selling these action figures mint "in the box" for a few extra dollars.
moneys is money, you can always get more of it. But time....... well...were all running out of it. -

My GPU was reaching similar temperatures in Mass Effect. And it was coming to high 80C in Crysis.
Sort to say... it's weird, but it happens to more people than just yourself (oh, and my GPU is not OCed). -
I dunno, milcs, mine hasn't gone above 68C ever. I haven't run Crysis, but 68C was Assassin's Creed maxed (1680x). Mass Effect was around 66C, and currently Fallout 3 is at 62C, on ultrahigh.

Without cooler?
Mine might be running a bit hot... in fact, I have noticed that ever since I got the laptop, the 3DMark06 scores have gone down, which might suggest something is not working perfectly... But I will have a better look whenever I have more time.
Very High Heat With 9800m gt, in only one game?!?!?!
