I just got my new m860tu, and looks great.. only problem is the damed wireless card. It happens randomly, but it doesn't connect, and then it shows a globe and you have a valid IP, but you can't browse the web -- but you can ping.

I reinstalled everything several times (including vista u x64.).. I opened her up today and tried to re-seat the card, and that didn't seem to do the trick.. the only viable workaround is to turn on and off the radio, or disconnecting from the access pt (and sometimes that works, but I can only ping)..

I've read others who have had this problem with a wireless card, but no one in here.. I'm not convinced it's a hardware problem, but it might be.. I've also reset the winsock and that didn't do anything...

Today, I've recalibrated the access pt to a private pt and I've taken off the "draft-n" access for the card (along with the saving power bit)..

The quick workaround is just enable and disable the radio.. and that seems to fix it.. but it's quite random..

Any ideas here would be great.. Thanks,

I have to do the same thing, turning the radio on/off at times. I have no idea as to why this happens, and it can be annoyingly random.

How do you reset winsock, turn off draft-n, etc?

I've been planning to buy an N router, to see if I still have the issue.

Thanks Kevin -- indeed.. it's very odd... I re-seated the card this week, and that didn't really do anything.. but turning on and off the radio, fixes it every time. I wrote the builder -- see if they have a fix.. have you tried getting a new card? also, have you tested it against an N router and see if that works?

Have you downloaded the latest update for the drivers?

I have.. tried three different sets..

the most current, the one shipped with the puter.. and one middle set.. nothing really stops this odd behavior.. it's very indiscriminate and I've worked my butt off trying to troubleshoot it..

Bottom line, when it happens, you need to reset the radio.. it's almost as if the card is in some state and then when you reset the radio it returns to normal.. quite unusual..

I did have a ton of problems with draft-n wireless cards in the past, I would have never chose one, but this lappy only has one to choose from. I've shut off the n band, but that doesn't seem to fix it.

    so.. there you go..

Just for the sake of ruling it out...have you tried connecting to a different network? It could possibly be your router or AP without you realizing it. I was having some similar problems and after reconfiguring my router (new SSID, different security, etc.) it seems to be better.
