Is it worth upgrading to the GeForce 9800 GTS from the ATI HD3870?

    Thanks :)

Absolutely -- just remember that the 9800 might be more power hungry.

That would depend on the price. Why don't you upgrade to ATI HD 4870, cheap and powerful - better than NVIDIA GTX 280.

We don't really know how fast the HD3870 runs or what its game performance is. It could be equal to the 8800m GTS, or it could be worse. ATI also has a bad reputation with drivers. While the hardware may or may not be superior, it probably wont run as well as it should in actual use.

The deal breaker for me, though, is the late August (expected) release date. I'd like to have my laptop in my hands sometime before I go away to University.
