    I have a 3.5 year old Clevo D900T (Prostar) 3.6GHz, 2G RAM with GeForceGo 6800 256MB grahics card.

I am now experiencing a repeating series of yellow bar rectangles across the screen. If I scroll the yellow bars smear. Reformatted and re-installed all drivers and the problem persists.
Prostar want me to ship the computer back to them for repair (I have allready done this before on three prior occasion - once to simply replace the DVD drive after they had just sent it back to me for the first repair, and can you believe this, once because they wouldn't send me a new power supply when the original died under warranty). This is my second box from them, no problems with the first, but obviously I don't wish to put more money into the pockets of guys who wouldn't send me power supply. (oviously I told them I would send back the dead one)
I easily popped the card out (see http://www.extremetch.com/image_p[opup/0,1694,iid=98927,00.asp) myself so I know the repalcement is 10 minute job.
The question is, where can I purchase a replacement card to do the swap myself?

I believe RJTech carries cards for your laptop. Unfortunately they are very expensive. Have you thought about investing in a new machine?

I guess I can start calling around but I expect that everyone else is going to want to sell me a new notebook. My machine is still a quite capable machine and would cost a lot more than $300-400 to replace.

BTW were are you located? I am in Williamsport.

Depending on the series of the motherboard the 7950GTX may not work in that older D900T. The 7800GTX card definitely will.

I checked with RJTech and they indicated that I needed a motherboard rev 6.1 or later. My board is v4.7. Looks like I am out of luck. :(

JD, due to your motherboard revision, you can only update to:
    - 6800 Go (DDR3)
    - 6800 Ultra (DDR3)

It will cost around $500 to upgrade motherboards, so that might not be a cost efficient option, since the D900T has been phased out.

Do you know of any vendor who still carries those cards?

RJtech sold those cards up to a few months ago, so they might still be able to get one of them for you if you contact them directly. I would also recommend to contact:
    - Sager
    - Pro-Star
    - Eurocom

Those are the 3 well-known authorized Clevo dealers in North America.

Hi, I have a D900K and want to upgrade the video card. I bought it over a year ago with a 6800Ultra installed. Does anyone know if all D900Ks can support the 7800's or 7950GTX cards or does that depend on the version of the mobo. If so what version is required for anything better than the 6800ultra. Im Hoping I do not have to replace the motherboard to upgrade the videocard.
    Thanks

the D900K can support all of the Clevo modular videocards:
    - 6800Ultra (256mb)
    - 7800GTX (256mb)
    - 7900GTX (256mb or 512mb)
    - 7950GTX (512mb)
    - Quadro 1500M (~7800 GTX)
    - Quadro 2500M (~7900 GTX)

The videocards are quite costly, starting around $400-500 for the 7800/7900/7950 cards.

The only thing when upgrading on the D900K is to update the BIOS before swapping videocards.

    Thats it.

This is true regardless of the motherboard version number?

the D900K never had any major motherboard revisions like the D900T did.

    it only had BIOS updates

I got the D900K back in March 2006, its been very good to me.

I was considering the D900T, but i wanted dual-core support, so I went with the D900K.

I have a few friends with the D900T, and their motherboard revision is too old to support the nVidia 7xx0 cards for the Clevo's.
