I was wondering if anyone could tell me where I can buy a video card for my
d900k/alienware 7700. I bought a bare bones laptop and I need just about everything for it.

Most of the stuff seems to be real easy to find except for the video card.

Thanks in advance for any help you may have.....

Do you know where I can get the lastest bios? I did not see it on the Clevo website.

Also, is there an easy way to tell which 17" screen I have without having the laptop functioning. I still need to get all the parts to get it up and running.

Just a heads up on the video cards from RJtech... They are at least 3 weeks out on the 7950GTX and he says he cannot even get the 7800 anymore. :(

    Hi:

I am planning on buying the nVidia GeForce 7950 GTX Video card module, but I heard the news that there's a new mobile video card around. It's the 8700M GT card and I'm just wondering if this will work on a D900K mobo. I have an alienware aurora m7700 with a D900K, and would like to upgrade my card (current card is 6800 Ultra). Is there a site that outlines laptop mobo video card compatibility? Called up Clevo, but didn't get a helpful reply.

    Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

The Clevo D900K/T is using the previous module design, which top out at 7950GTX.

So that seems to be the final upgradeable videocard for the previous generation of Clevo notebooks.

As for who to contact, read the reply right above yours. ;)

Thanks for the welcome and the reply! I guess my best bet is not to wait for the new card and get the 7950 GTX 512MB instead. This thread has been helpful, especially the rjtech link and video card stuff, contacted them and in the process of ordering the card. Just one question, I asked them and according to them I don't need to flash the bios anymore, is this true? Previous card is 6800 Ultra 256MB.

    Thanks again!

I believe you do need to flash your BIOS.

you have to flash it to 1.00.09 (which is the version that recognizes 7950GTX)

Yeah you're right, I checked some links and 1.00.09 supports the 7950 GTX video card, my BIOS version is 1.00.07A. I was kind of avoiding doing these because of those horror stories, if there is a link on flashing bios for dummies please send it to me :) I have a 32-Bit Vista and I'm wondering if flashing the bios would affect the os at all.

    Thanks

flashing a BIOS is low-level, it should not really affect an OS.

Any clue if the D900C is upgrade-able?
I'd consider putting an 88 into it, if/when one comes out.

It is upgradable. Whether an upgrade will become available for it is another story. It is possible that the D900C will be unable to accept "8800m"s. We'll see.

I am confident that the 8800M will be easily be upgradeable for the M570RU and the D900C.

Just wait til Winter, and we shall see. :)

Thanks Gophn! I tried contacting Alienware for the latest BIOS, no dice there. I saw on your earlier post that you provided a link for the latest BIOS from Eurocom, would theirs work on mine? I'm pretty sure it will, just want to verify, I'm such a noob when it comes to this things :) Thanks

Yes the link from Eurocom would work as well.

The notebook is a Clevo D900K.... not just an "Alienware" (of whom just rebrands it).

So... as long as you got this ODM model of notebook, all software should remain the same regardless of "brand"

I have a D900T with the rev 5.5 motherboard. Will it be able to run 7950 GTX video card with a bios upgrade?

    Unfortunately no.

You will need version 6.1 and up to be able to support the Geforce 7 series (7800GTX/7900GTX/7950GTX).
