Well since I just ordered my new 5793 I have a few days or so to plan out my new build.
I am planning on dual booting with Vista Ultimate x64 and Linux Mint for my Linux distro.
I am guessing that the fact that the 5793 is an Intel / nVidia platform that I should not have any issues with the Linux drivers. My only concern would be the wireless drivers and/or capability to use the N mode for wireless. Not a big deal since I will game in Vista.
I have searched and read a little in the forums about Linux on Sager/Clevo based systems. Not too much has concerned me so far. If anyone knows of any potential pitfalls, please let me know.
As for Vista 64bit everyone seems to be running fine with it. I am moving from the high end desktop world to the high end laptop word so any advice in setting up Vista for best performance on a laptop, if there is anything different that I should be concerned with.
Anyway sorry for rambling! I have been reading the forum for a few weeks in trying to make my decision to go with a Sager and whether you know it or not, you guys made the decision easy!!

I am dual-booting Sabayon 64Bit distro and Vista Ultimate 64Bit.
Everything seems to work right out of the box.
Wireless drivers are no problem. It recognizes the adapter and I think even N mode is working.
PS: I've had some ACPI issues but they somehow seem to have disappeared. -
Good to know!
Thanks -

I tried a few live CD's (mainly Ubuntu, Knoppix, DSL, Elive) and except for DSL where I had to manually load the driver using ndiswrapper nearly everything seemed to work right out of the box.
Linux Mint is pretty bleeding edge so you shouldn't have any problems with your hardware I guess.
If you need more specific help you can post in the Linux section of this forum.
Welcome to the forum by the way and you won't be disappointed with your 5793. This laptop rocks! -
Thanks again and I can not wait to get the laptop. Once I get it and load it up, if I have any problems I will definately be checking out the Linux forum here.
I have been using Linux Mint on a business laptop, but it was just a Vostro and know where near the bleeding edge in chipset, etc. -

I see you ordered through Xotic. Very good choice and you're definitely in good hands.
Did you know you can even run Crysis in Linux?
Here's a link http://youtube.com/watch?v=DYf6yJ5zKks -
Yeah Xotic treated me right and everything that I read led me to go with them. Just over there treated me good!
Did not know that!! Makes the dream of getting away from Windows a possibility! -
Runs like crap though. Kinda like Mac with games. Not the best you can get.

It is a start if nothing else.
Until then dual boot it is -

I would've never thought that games with so much OS dependency and integration could run on Linux.
Games like Doom 3 and Quake 4 run pretty smooth though (all ID games for that matter). http://youtube.com/watch?v=gNSYrHbptt4 -
i'm using linux mint daryna 4.0 the 5.0 is coming out and everytime i boot to vista thinking of xp sp3......i keep saying this is why i change to linux....
I only use windows to play games nothing more and if i have to run a program of windows i install it or run windows within linux. -
Yeah I mainly use Windows for gaming and a few business applications. I can not wait to see the performance of this beast on Linux!!

I don't like dual booting.
I run a CentOS virtual machine in VMWare Player, and it runs really well at native resolution (1920x1200). While FullScreen , you can't even tell it's a vm!
Anyway, just another option if you haven't thought of it, and of course it depends what you want to do with it. I use it as a workstation/portal to multiple servers for development, and having a workstation I can suspend and then restart later at a moments notice without having to reboot and with all my windows/terminals up already is quite convenient. -
That is an option due to the performance of this laptop. However personally I really only go into Windows for gaming or during work times and during that time I do not need Linux and visa versa.
