So I'm looking at picking up a new Sager laptop for gaming (still haven't quite decided between 92 and 57) and I see on the order forms that if I choose Vista, it includes both 32 bit and 64 bit versions on the media.

What I want to know is which version is installed? Can we choose? If we want Vista 32 installed (or Vista 64) is there some way of specifying that somewhere?

    Thanks

Only for the retail versions you get 2 DVDs for Vista Ultimate one for x86 (32-bit) and x64 (64-bit).... You cant get both of these on a single DVD....

And for the OEMs you get from laptop manufacturers they either provide you x86 or x64 depending on which one you ask for....

But usually when laptop manufacturers say they install Vista Ultimate on the laptop they mean the x86 version.... Only if they explicitly mention as x64 or 64-bit it implies the x64 edition....

Go for the Vista 64 for better performance and full utilisation of the 64 bit Core 2 Duo CPU,but be warned, drivers are still in the making for some products...but nothing tragic.
Or if you don`t want the hassle, go with 32 bit, like the majority of people :)

By default Sager will Install 64-Bit. When you have 64-Bit installed you will get both versions (32/64) on media. Due to their licensing agreement when you request 32-Bit you will only the 32-Bit version media.

I wanted 4 GB of ram. The only way to make this work is Vista x64. The only problem I have found so far is my command and conquer does ot run correctly. A small sacrifice.

Hmm...would be nice to have both the 32bit and 64 bit versions, so I guess I need to order it with x64, but for driver support, I'm still considering sticking with 32 bit for now (even if I can't access all my memory).

Keep in mind that Sager makes sure they have full driver support for Vista x64, otherwise they wouldn't install it. It's software compatibility you really need to watch out for. It's easy to reinstall using 32 bit if you need to, though.

Just install the 32 bit Vista when you get the computer. As far as drivers, no problems yet. Getting both now is cheaper in the long run.
