What Driver are you currently using for your 8800MGTX with Vista 64bit?

Did you have to install the new BIOS version 1.00.08 to get it to work w/o downclocking?
Also can I get this BIOS directly from Sager if I need it?

    Thanks.

I'm currently using the latest 175.12 driver from LV2G.... And I don't think it's serving me too well.... I've noticed STUTTERING on The Witcher and a couple of other games..... which never happened before...
    I have the .08S bios.... you're saying the .08 is NEWER ?

lmk if you need it. i can even add a custom boot screen for you.. its the EXACT SAME bios that sager will give you. i just flashed to sager's version tonight and there is 0 difference after i did a bios dump and compared the 2 they are identical. minus the boot screen logo.

i have used phoenix editor for a long time... i can tell you they are the same. imo use the clevo version.. but i have the sager one, eurocom, pro star, clevo, etc if you need them

The only way you can get the Sager bios is by sending your notebook to Sager and having them flash it for you. They will not send you the bios file, I've tried that route and got nowhere with them. I really would like the Sager logo back as the Style logo is really poor looking, IMO.

The file on Sager's website is just for fan control and has nothing to do with the system bios. I am currently running Vista Ultimate 64, .44 driver, and .08 bios and I get half of what I should get in my core and memory clocks according to my GPU monitor.

correct the one they send out via email (at least the one i got) is not the "full" sager bios i guess. it will not change everything back after a reflash

I'm still using 167.44, I guess I'm waiting for Sager to officially release a new version but the downclocking when on battery power sure does piss me off, I can't even play NFS most wanted.

meh, thats why I bought 2 batteries. I don't mind the automatic downclocking but I wish it wouldn't override any custom clocking so I could set a good middle ground between the excessive underclocking, and the ridiculous stock speed.

On battery, with the downclocked 8800M GTX, it's still enough to play UT3 maxed out w/o AA/AF @ WUXGA (1920x1200) res @ >30-35 FPS. :D (which is less than half the normal FPS ;))

hey all what codecs do you guys use for vista x64 with SP1 and have you guys been having any trouble with installing your codecs.

i have my codecs installed they work fine for a bit. then when i put the comp to sleep or restart it and try to play a movie it says xvidcore.dll not found or sometimes there is sound but no picture.

its seems that the files are getting lost or windows is not loading the dlls properly.

Which driver version and did you update your BIOS? And Vista 64 right?

I am still using the stock 8800GT drivers because they work flawlessly for me.. unless I'm on battery power. Then anything 3D related goes right in the garbage performance-wise. Been waiting to upgrade until they change that.

I do have a workaround for the slowdown.. Hibernate instead of turning the computer off. If you hibernate while it is plugged in, it won't downclock when you power it back on. And it can run a good hour playing a game on battery power.

But I'd like to not have to do that.. so let me know how you're doing it so I can try them out :)

cheers for the answers to the previous questions.

got 2 more questions, my hard drives seems to be thrashing alot.. i have turned of indexing but it still thrashes for no reason.. any thing else i can take a look at to limit this

next question is when i go to hibernate and come out of it, i have tried to use fn+1 to maximise the fans and all i get is a beep and then pressing it again it gives me 2 beeps. the only solution i have found to make this go away is to restart the lappy. after that all is back to normal. is this a known issues or has anyone else experienced this.

I've been using the 174.70 drivers with erratic performance. I've tried several other drivers, but I havn't been able to get the 169.12 driver to work. I'd like to try that one. I don't see anything about a 8800m GTX in the modified INF file and when I try to install 169.12 the installer gives an error about hardware not being compatable. 167.44 doesn't work well at all.

I'm using GPUZ to review my GPU and I just updated to the more recent version .2.1 and the new version is displaying the GPU clock speeds to be at default, where the old version had the underclocking numbers. 300/500. I didn't make any other changes besides updating GPUZ so I'm wondering whats accurate.

I'd like to update my BIOS but I'm not sure where I can find the file needed, and some instructions.

The BIOS version GPUZ lists is 62.92.19.00.A8 and I'm not sure if this is a good bios.

I installed 175.12 nvidia driver and its performance is a bit more consistent with games than 174.70. It scored a 8800 3dmark06 which is my highest score yet. Altho as I was watching the test I noticed frames were a bit lower, the CPU score was about 1000 points higher than any previous test, so thats curious.

My computer should be getting 9500+ and I'm still working on that. I think it might be a bios issue, but I don't know where to download or even flash a bios. I'm looking for instruction.

Some folks say that 3dmark06 isn't a viable test for real world application. I just see that when I have higher scores, games run better, so the test has credit in my opinion.

I've experienced nasty textures in every game I've played and I'm wondering if the card is faulty, but I don't know how to test that.

Hmm... You have 8800M GTX and operate by Vista x64.

I had installed the 175.63. SLI mode can be enabled.
    Screen shot is here.
    http://www.eva-lagoon.net/mana/cgi-bin/up/img/18.jpg

3DMark06 score is up to 14543. But I think that change of score from 174.33 to 175.63 might be the error range.
GPU-Z said that BIOS revision is 62.92.34.00.08.
And I had downloaded from here.
    http://downloads.guru3d.com/

    Good luck.

@dazzyd - Go to laptopvideo2go and click on the topic for your OS, there are 3 links at the top of the post, download the driver and modded inf. Run the driver exe and it will extract to a folder you give it, drag the modded inf you downloaded to that folder and overwrite the one thats there, then run setup.exe from that folder

    Hope this helps

Alrighty, got the bios flashed to 62.92.34.00.08 and the driver I tested was 175.12 with a 3dmark06 result of 9499. One point off my expected goal of 9500. I'm satisfied for now.

Finding the proper .rom and dos boot files to make a usb drive was the hardest part. The actual process is quick and painless. I did a fresh driver install with drivercleaner after the bios change.

Took me awhile to get this done and I'm feeling pretty good. I'll think about SLI and overclocking in a couple more months, hopefully prices drop.

My mobile needs may prevent much overclocking because I'm stuck with stock cooling and don't have a means of transporting a cooling pad around with me. I have to carry everything I own, at times, when I relocate.

I made a usb thumb drive dos boot disk, and used NVflash to flash the bios. It was hard locating a copy of dos that I could use to make the boot disk, the actual bios took me awhile to locate as well. Nvflash runs in dos, I havn't used dos commands in a long time, thankfully I recall the basics of dir and cd..

I can be more clear, step by step if you like, and email whatever files you might need. Its all small 60kb-ish stuff.

I searched 3dguru for a bios and didn't get clear information on the files at that site. Nvda bios, nvidia bios, bios, and the actual version number didn't yield good search results. I kept getting nibitor and nvflash and forceware versions, and motherboard bios .rom files.

Most of the useful information came from notebookreview forum searches. Like links to that HP usb bootdisk creator, and a link to dos files... actually now that I think about it I got all the information and downloads from google searches which lead me back to this forum.

Dazzyd are you thinking of overclocking? you have sli which suggests your bios and drivers are up to date. I read some horror stories of BSOD (black screen of death) from using any other method besides DOS to flash a bios. Dos makes it easy to recover by blindly typing the commands to flash the old bios.

Yeah, it ran well. I've been using that bios now for about a week. got a 10500 3dmark06.

I run my fans on high whenever I'm using a 3d app. That bios downclocks in 2d applications to 200mhz core and 100mhz memory. I watch my temps.

The orange Fn key on the lower left part of the keypad plus the number 1 sets fans to high speed.

    Fn+1

I've been playng around with drivers, but I havn't been using fraps or any testing software to measure real game performance, just my personal opinion on how well games run. I'm happy with witcher on high and bioshock on high, rarely is there a stutter. I'm using 175.63 right now, and to be honest I can't tell the difference between any of the drivers I've used.

Well the cpu tests are never smooth, and during the first game demo of 3dmark06, whenever the feet of the giant mech in the hanger are in view I drop below 20 FPS. Those feet must have a really high polygon count. Theres a couple spots when the fps drops below twenty while watching the flying ship and the giant sea monster. But its consistently in the same frames, and the FPS is higher now than it was before.

I wish I could get 60fps in every game, but its just a laptop.

i have done my obligatory 3d mark 06 run and this is what i got

    SM2.0 Score 4947
    HDR/SM3.0 6005
    Cpu Score 3613

    overall 12708 3dmarks..

hmm im not so sure this is quite high. and im running the modified overclocked bios too and on vista x64. does this look right chaps.??

should i turn off all background programs and processes and try again

Yea I would turn off the background apps. Some of the guys overclocking are doing that tape thing with the cpu and they get 3+ Ghz CPUS which contributes to the 14k-15K scores.

Personally I think this GPU can be pushed farther than what that bios does. I'm not using a cooling pad and my computer is in a bit of an enclosed area and I rarely see 70 celcius.

Your CPU score is a bit lower than mine and it should be 500-1000 points higher. I scored about 3500 on the graphic tests and 4000 on the cpu. Let me run 3dmark06 again and post the results.

I was mistaken about the CPU score.

hm.. never noticed this before but the individual scores don't add up. Above provides a 3dmark06 score of 10461. go figure.

hmm im having the same problems again with my gfx drivers.

everytime i install em and restart all is good. when i restart the comp again for the second time.. rivatuner says no forceware drivers detected. even though in the nvidia panel it says it is installed.

i tried to run 3dmark 06 again and it says a .dll file is missing and crashes

tried to run 3dmark vantage and says this program has stopped working visual C++ runtime error.

hmm im not sure what is wrong.?

    GPU score is 7287

I had to reinstall my video drivers today. I get problems after about a week of use. My sound starts poping and chirping during all applications, even during the windows startup chime.

Games start to stutter when this popping sound happens. Re-installing the drivers with a cleaner, fixes the problem for another week.

Either vista is eating my video drivers or perhaps theres something else. I didn't get my clevo through sager, I got it through another clevo reseller, and I don't have any of the sager bios or manuals or software. I've been wondering if my motherboard bios version is the best option. My clevo doesn't have any logos or brand names on it at all. Just the model/serial plate on the bottom.

I downloaded sound drivers from the sager and the clevo site. The sites listed the drivers as 64 bit, but the text files didn't list vista 64 as a supported OS. I wish there was more than one option. The files were the same at both sites.

I have SP1 installed. It came with my windows disk, I let windows update as needed, too. I'm not 100% sure on the dx, but I assume I do. I get dx off game cds, dx9c and dx10. Don't know about 10.1

Alrighty, takes me awhile to download anything. I'm in Afghanistan and the connection is heavily regulated. I got the March 08 update for DX and it seems to have corrected the problem.

I had the .08 bios flashed for awhile and I had 175.xx drivers working, but I'm not using that motherboard. I didn't realize there was a problem.

I was having a lot of problems with my initial bios. I think it was .A8 or something like that. Perhaps this is the bios you have.
