What do you mean your not using "that motherboard"

Also ~ my current system BIOS is .07s ~ I was unaware that any of the BIOS's had letters in them? What BIOS are you refering to when you say .A8.

I will soon upgrade my SBIOS to .08s and hopefully that will fix it, but I have heard some people have .08s and new drivers still downclock.

right my problem that i had regarding missing nvldmmkm.sys driver is not going gaway.. basically i install the nvidia drivers.. all goes good for a lil while then firefox does not start.. my sidebar hangs.. and gpu z and rivatuner both says no forceware drivers even though i have installed the bloody things gahh.... keep on reinstalling and it keeps on dissapperiang.. i have a feeling that vista is somehow offloading the drivers or just deleting it by itself..

so i have decided to reformat and reinstall again.. :(

yep thanks chaps.. re installed vista x64.. in ahci mode.. takes a bit longer to start up now.. coz it checks for ahci bios compatiblity.. but hey its working !!..

installed 175.75 drivers for my Gfx. and SP1.and things are sweet so far..! (Touchwood)

let see if everything is good before i go on installing more programs. might even do a 3dmark06 benchmark now

why did u install in ACHI mode? is that better? Sounds like it isnt if it takes longer to boot maybe?

Also did SP1 Automatically Install for you from Windows Update?

If you re-insall vista 64bit, do you have to do this?

apparrently it is a lil faster in ahci mode.. theres this thing call NCQ disk caching thing.. i read up somewhere.

no SP1 did not update automatically. i however downloaded the standalone pack from the MS site and installed it that way. its quicker :D

It is generally disabled in bios by default for compatibility with older OS.

It is generally not a good idea to switch to it after you have installed your OS, you enable it before the install.

if it was enabled initially then no you would not need to mess with it. but if its not enabled then yes you would need to hit F2 and go into your bios and enable it.

then re isntall vista 64. and then once you are in windoze.. install the matrix drivers.

I get my new 5793 in tomorrow. I will check and see if Sager now sets AHCI on by default now. It would make sense as we move forward as most of the newer OS support it.

I'm still having downclocking problems with any driver other than 167.43. I even tried a new 8800M GTX.

I'll try reinstalling Vista 64. How long does that typically take? I'll plan on enabling AHCI before I start. Any other tips?

you could do what i did mate, overclock your bios on your 8800gtx. that will eliminate your downclocking problems. dont even need to overclock your gfx further with ntune of rivatuner as it will be hardware overclocked.

umm reinstallation took me bout 25 minutes.

    yep sure did..

firstly when it boots up hit f2 go into the bios settings and to the hard drive mode and select AHCI. then save settings and reboot.

    insert your windoze cd here

it will go through and do its thing.. then boot up from cd and follow the prompts.

format your hdd.. and install windoze.

once in there first thing i did was install the intel matrix drivers and reboot again.
