    My question is this...

Will having a different version of Vista alter the performance of my future NP8660? Like for example, will a 64 bit Ultimate preform better than a 64 bit Home Premium?

The performance will be the same, the only thing you'll miss is the extra's that come with Ultimate. (Which I still haven't quite figured out either way! ;))

Home Premium nets you Windows Media Center.
Business gives you some kind of encryption.

Ultimate gives you both and some flashy extras.

Different versions of Vista don't really yield varying performance results because the only difference between versions like Home Premium and Ultimate is that the latter has more features enabled. Otherwise, they are exactly the same.

There are no language packs for Vista Home Premium to change the operating system from one language to another, so I had to go with Ultimate. Not that it might be important to you, just mentioning that.

I have to ask this, what is the point of the language packs? Why not buy Vista in the language you want in the first place?

Because most people don't actually purchase Vista separately, and notebook retailers only offer a few, if any language choices on preinstalled OEM copies.

Why do you need Vista? If only DX10, I am running a 570TU on XP and at 1920x1200 maxed out details etc on DX9, a lot of new games are borderline playable (eg World in Conflict 20-30 FPS). So today's notebook graphics appear to be a little too immature for the 'glories' of DX10 (assuming you actually notice any) ... If you just want day to day eye candy, you can go to crystal-xp.net and make XP mimic Vista (without inheriting the doziness)

it should be noted that one important feature of biz or ultimate is the ability to hook into a domain

You may or may not need this, but if you do, you must go biz or ultimate

Some of us are bi-lingual, and it’s nice to have a choice of switching the operating system from time to time to one of the other language(s) we happen to know. Have no idea why that’s not standard; guess Bill didn’t think it was that important.

If you are bilingual, why change language?
I Am too and I never find myself wanting to change language of the OS.

Varadero, I only had Vista trial for a few days and I tried two games. One was the older Star Trek Birth of the Federation and it worked great first time, keep having problems it under XP SP2. The other was Medal of Honor Allied Assault that run better on my machine DX10 than under XP SP2.

Then we are very much different, and that’s why it should be an option. ;)

I'm bilingual too, but never find myself wanting to speak my other language. LMAO!

That last part was a joke btw..
