    I have a NP5790/M570U with 4GB of memory runnning Vista 64.

The BIOS recognizes 4GB of memory.

Windows system properties recognizes 4GB of memory.

Task Manager however only reports 3GB of total Physical Memory.

The Microsoft KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605 explains that the BIOS reserves a portion of memory for devices and that in order to support 32-bit OS's, most BIOS default to the space between 3G and 4G. In order to fix this problem you need to enable something called memory remapping in the BIOS.

My BIOS (version 1.00.03SL) did not have this option, so I contacted Sager for an updated BIOS. They sent me version 1.00.12SL.

I flashed the BIOS and now Windows only recognized 2557MB of physical memory.

Has anyone else noticed this problem? Is there a workaround?

Short of a fix, does anyone have either BIOS version 1.00.03SL or a later BIOS version?

According to this site the notebook has the Santa Rosa chipset:
    http://www.powernotebooks.com/specs/Sager/5790specs.php

That chipset has a hardware 4GB limit, it cannot address more than 4GB of space. So there is no way to get more than 4GB, or even 4GB for that matter, to the OS.

Even if I can't get all 4G, I'd like to at least get back to 3G.

I will try to contact Sager tomorrow for another BIOS download.

I think there is some confusion.

the Clevo M570U should be Sager 5760.
    - Napa platform (mobile Intel 945 chipset)
    - CPU maxes at T7600
    - RAM maxes at 3GB (...due to the chipset limitation, even if 4GB is installed physically)
    - Videocard maxes at Nvidia 7950GTX (non-standard module, Clevo proprietary)

the Clevo M570RU/RU-U should be Sager 5790/5791/5792/5793
    - Santa Rosa platform (Intel PM965 chipset)
    - CPU tops out at X9000
    - RAM maxes at 4GB DDR2-667
    - Videocard no max yet since there are still more MXM Type IV cards

the Clevo M570TU/ETU should be Sager 5796/5797
    - Montevina platform / Centrino 2 (Intel PM45 chipset)
    - CPU tops out at X9100 (or QX9300 with ETU)
    - RAM maxes at 8GB DDR3.. for now since there will be larger sticks later
    - Videocard no max yet since there are still more MXM Type IV cards
