I've searched all over and haven't found a single review on the quality of the matte screen. Is it much better quality and worthy of being a primary screen? Most 11.6" screens are terrible, but if this thing is pretty good I might pick one up.

    Thanks.

I would take matte over glossy any day, regardless of the computer model.

I have not been able to directly compare the two as mine came with the Matte from Mythlogic but I find it more then worthy of being my primary screen. It really helps if you plan to use it in uncontrolled lighting environments. The entire reason I got this model was to be able to take it many places and use it in all of them as my primary machine. If I had not planned to travel and use it in such a wide range of locations I would have gotten a larger and more powerful machine.

The w110er meets the power needs I have(if not the power want) and the size is more appropriate for my uses then a larger and heavier machine. Part of being more appropriate for my uses is handling working outdoors and near uncontrolled windows and a Matte screen really helps. All my prior machines have had glossy screens and always forced me to be careful about what seat I chose or to otherwise adjust for the light. The matte screen really helps solve that problem and after calibration is good enough for all my uses.

You have to see both. It greatly depends on the person. For example
but personally I'd say the contrary. I find the colors to be more lively and realistic than that of the matte which I find to be a bit... tern compared to the glossy. So that's completely up to you. If you want the principal difference here's wiki's def : "A matte display is an electronic display with a matte surface. Matte displays feature a light scattering anti-glare layer, which reduces glare at the cost of decreased contrast and color intensity under dimly lit conditions" so if you're always gonna use it in closed places I'd say glossy, if you want the full flexibility of using it anywhere, matte. But as I was saying to the people in the gamut thread, a screen is something you get used to. If you forced me to use matte displays for 10 years I'd probably be choosing matte afterwards. And just saying, I have a p370 with the 3d screen, and I even think it's matte despite the "quality" (I mean the colors & contrast) being that of a glossy, which shows that the clevo models have very good matte screens.

Sorry was trying to get an exact model number. Are you looking for the model for the W110er like this post or the NP9170 like the PM.

Both would be good actually :)

If I get the matte display on the NP9170 it adds 4-7 days to build time. Is this because you are the ones replacing the screen? Also a model number for both matte screens would be good.

And if you could answer that other part via PM that would be good!

Very informative, thanks! So overall you're happy with the brightness, crispness, colors, etc? When I got the M11x my biggest disappointment was the screen. So much so I let my wife have it. I swore off 11" since then until a much better screen came out.

To be clear, I'm very aware the differences between matte & glossy. I much prefer matte. I'm ok with glossy in dark environments and low reflection.

My real problem is I thought the last 11" glossy display I saw, even in dark environments, looked like garbage. Since the matte screen is a $100 upgrade, I'm curious if the picture is any better.

This is not a matte vs glossy question. This is a screen quality question, particular to this model number.

I don't think that is a question that can be answered by anyone but you. It all comes down to how sensitive you are to color and what uses you will be putting it to. It is only standard gamut screen.

I can say I'm not bothered by it but I also don't do critical movie watching on it (I have a projection setup at home for that) and mostly do writing, editing, and game playing on it. It is good for youtube videos and I can do basic non-highcolor accuracy required video editing but I wouldn't use it as a work machine for a video/photo editing profession. It has the power to do those tasks but the screen isn't a high quality IPS. It is just a standard gamut TN panel that is usable after calibration

This is what I found tucked away in there:

"I like it. The matte finish helps a lot. Viewing angles are about the same. Brightness is a little less from what I recall, but plenty bright. I did use it yesterday in the shade but sunny out and 50% brightness was plenty. No distracting reflections or anything. It's a good option IMHO. "

    Page 18. Whew.

Oh dang, 2 pages later!!!! :

Honestly, no. I like it because it's matte, no refletion. But otherwise overall specs are similar. If you want matte, it's either this or a protector. I ordered the other matte screen online for $60, which doesn't fit, and ended up breaking stock screen by accident so it was either stock screen or matte for me, and decided to just go for matte.

I should have saved myself some money and gotten stock screen again and bought a $20 protector but for whatever reason my mind wasn't willing to think clearly and just went ahead with the matte screen.
