Hey guys, I'm experiencing alot of lag spikes during games and heavy applications and I was wondering if someone here would be able to help me out. I apologize if this is not the focus of the forum but I'm desperate.

These lag spikes ocurr randomly and kind freeze the laptop for a less than a second, its annoying as you are playing a rpg and you always notice these freezes, even in minecraft I have this issue. I'm a computer programmer and it's very unconfortable to program and have some freezings while writing my stuff :(.

I always play SC2 with music on and the music doesn't get freezed, only the SC2 process (it's like a 100ms freeze every 60seconds or so).

This issue was not always here, it started two weeks ago.

    Specs:
    W150HRM
    [IMG]
    I7-2630QM CPU @ 2.00GHz
    [IMG]
    8GB ram ddr3 @1333mhz
    [IMG]
    NVidia GT555m
    [IMG]
    HD 500GB @7200rpm

    MAX Temps while gaming:

    What I have tried:
    1. GT555 drivers up-to-date.
    2. All partitions are defragmented.
    3. I'm pretty sure now that the lag is not caused by internet connection as it ocurrs on VisualStudio 2010 (offline development tool) and I checked the FPS in game and noticed the FPS dropped from 60 to 10 and than gone to 60 back again.
    4. I have done a fresh install of Windows7 Professional (I don't have a key for Ultimate edition) x64 with no success.
    5. SO has all updates installed.
    6. I have disabled CPU parking by setting to 0 to MaxValue and MinValue in all the registries "cc5b647-c1df-4637-891a-dec35c318583"
    7. There may be some other things I tried but I don't remember it all, I'm following topics all over the www and so far I only see people with the same problem with no solution (none of them have W150HRM).

My friend bought the same notebook as mine and he doesn't have this issue but my notebook is 4months older than his and this problem just appeared some weeks ago.

If someone needs more info or want me to do some tests, please let me know.

    Edit[1]: SC2 = Starcraft2

It's possible that the lag spikes are not being caused by the wireless driver but by a different driver entirely. I recommend running DPC Latency checker. This will help you determine if you have a misbehaving driver.
    DPC Latency Checker

Run DPC Latency checker and see if there are any red spikes. See if the red spikes happen at the same time as your wireless lag spikes. If you see these results then open device manager and disable each device one by one until you find the cause of the red spikes - that'll be your bad driver. You can then either keep the device disabled or try and find a new driver for it.

Of course, it's possible that your problem is being caused by something else but I think this method of investigation is worth a try.
    Good luck! :)

I just tried it now and didn't help.

I got only 2 our 3 spikes to the yellow bar but it was not related to 'in-game spikes'.

By the way I will try to disable each device one by one to see if I can get free of the fps drops and I will post a reply soon.

    I just disabled:

    Fingerprint sensor.
    Wireless.
    Sound.

Still having the same issues as before :(

Edit[1]: Disabled all my usbs (including 3.0) and nothing changed, so frustrating :/

How often do these lag spikes occur?
    Can you reproduce them consistently?
Perhaps by running a certain application or putting your system under load?

Do you have the driver CD that came with your computer?
As a last resort I would try: restting BIOS to defaults (just in case), re-install Windows (don't worry about updates) and only install the drivers that are on the CD. I know they are old drivers but they will also be the most heavily tested set.

If you are still having problems after that then I'd assume it was a hardware issue. I'd try swapping out the hard drive and re-testing if you have a spare.

It sounds like a nasty problem :(
    Good luck!

These lag spike are constantly only in-game and while writing something on Visual Studio 2010, they occur every minute or two, it's very annoying.

The bios has no configurations, everything is locked for this laptop ''/.

I guess I'll try what you said and re-install windows without anything and only install the default drivers and give it a try.

Just to make sure, the temps on the first post are alright?

I still have 2more years of warranty so I can't open my laptop and I dont think the warranty will look this closely (play the game and notice the freezings), they will just say laptop is fine.

I guess I'll be one this one to make sure it's not related to temps:

btw, thanks for all your help, i really appreciate that.

    Sorry, just to clarify:
Sometimes resetting BIOS settings to defaults can fix these kinds of problems. Perhaps there is some minor corruption in the CMOS and resetting to defaults may fix this.

Looking at the screenshots you posted if your CPU is hitting 90 degrees+ then that seems very high to me. Around 80 degrees or less under heavy load would be acceptable.

If you are still having problems after resetting BIOS, reinstalling Windows and installing default drivers then you can double check your CPU temps by installing your HW Monitor and using "Prime 95" torture test on your CPU.
(Unfortunately the Prime95 website appears to be down at the moment)

I had it before this new fresh windows install (did last week) but the lag spikes still persists, I already ordered the coolers shown above to see if it will solve the problem. I'm also taking off alot of services and programs that start with windows to test when the coolers arrive.

I guess the coolers will be here after tomorrow, I will make sure to post here if the problem gets solved so others users can benefit from it. :)

If the problem doesn't go away I'll follow draxen advice and do a new fresh install with only cd drivers and pray for it :)
