I'm tempted to buy this laptop with the i7-3720QM (2.60 GHz - 3.60 GHz) as I mainly want it for its cpu power. However reading how the W150ER doesn't turbo boost when the gpu is under load I'm wondering if it is the case with this model as well?

Everything else about this laptop is perfect, but without being able to initiate turbo boost when I want I'll have to rethink a bit :/

    Yes, you are correct.

When the machine comes under load, CPU went turbo, but as soon as the Nvidia GPU came into play, the Turbo Boost feature, however, was suddenly disabled.

It's a deliberate and obligatory mod to make the nVIDIA GPU run the highest possible clock.
Given the several benchmark results.... this decision is not something one would call optimal. Clevo's decision however... :p

Well, that basically takes W170ER out of my consideration.

Thanks, it was your posts I found this out with.

Although I've only seen information on the turbo boost based on the W150ER and the W110ER so was hoping the W170ER might possibly be different due to its size or better cooling

There are probably some modded BIOS' laying around, that have fixed this "issue" of a kind.

And sure, glad to help :)

I guess run a modded BIOS if possible and get a more powerful power adapter to match... I mean, what they did, it kinda makes sense for a 120W laptop right?

I say it probably would be. Ripple issues most likely when you reach max power output of adapter. stability

Even with the Turbo Boost issues i'm still gonna get this laptop, and it doesn't seem like such a big thing.

So this happens on W110ER, W150ER and W170ER? How about the Clevo/Sager NP9130 and NP9150?
