Clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit 6.3.9600
OEM VIA HD Audio Drivers Installed first 6.0.11.500
Creative Sound Blaster Cinema 2 Installed after reboot. 1.00.07

    Problem:
With headphones plugged in and audio playing put the computer to sleep. Upon wake with headphones plugged in sound does not come out but works on internal speakers when headphones are removed.

    Workaround:
Run cmd and type "shutdown /s /t 0" then press enter. The computer shuts down and once it's turned back on and logged in the sound again works through the headphones. While this fixes the problem it isn't permanent. Since we know how to get it working again, it isn't a hardware issue.

    Ideas?

Assuming I am not reading this out of context, this was done incorrectly. The chipset driver should always be the first driver loaded after a clean/full Windows install. Whether that would cause your audio jack idiosyncrasy or not, though, I'm not certain of.

Let me clarify. Of the directly audio related drivers, the VIA drivers were installed first. Yes, the chipset drivers were installed before anything else. Given that I've found several different posts in different forums referring to this problem, I think this is something that really needs to be addressed.

To give an update, I've since installed the OEM drivers found on VIA's website. These drivers actually appear to be older (6.0.10.1200). The result is the same in that after bringing the computer from sleep the headphone audio jack doesn't work, but normal speaker audio works fine. The additional problem, which was expected is that the SB Cinema 2 no longer functions because it takes the specially enabled drivers from Clevo to function. I will be removing both and performing a clean install to get back to where I was. (i.e., see first post)

That's the problem with the Clevo HotKey software.

Run "InitHeadphone.exe" which can be found in the HotKey folder after sleep.

The Sager rep that I spoke with asked about HotKey first as well. Hotkey isn't installed on this system. I haven't tried your fix, but it goes in the workaround category if it works. One shouldn't need to manually run an executable every time a system is brought out of sleep mode just to get the sound on the headphone jack.

OK, I installed Hotkey from the Clevo website and that seems to have resolved the problem. What is unclear is why when hotkey was installed before it didn't have an effect on the problem. I'll do some more testing but I have been able to put the computer in sleep mode and wake it up a few times and the headphone audio is still working. We'll see if that lasts. Honestly I wish that I didn't need to have hot key installed in order for my sound to work consistently on the headphone jack. It's kind of bloatware and doesn't really provide much that the OS doesn't do already.
