Visit Clevo's Website and they have loaded the User Manual and Drivers for the new W230SS.

    CLEVO - Download

    Glimpse of specs here:

Only thing unique over the W230ST I see is the GTX 860m. There were rumors of an optional 4k screen but it doesn't show in the manual.

Also notice it looks like there is a new control center. :)

I'm a little disappointed, to be honest. I was hoping for at least *some* sort of physical refinement. I wonder if they even bothered to fix the finish durability issues on the touchpad and palm rest.

    Yup, nothing fancy, only hope is they fixed the current issues like;
touchpad wear and solidity (didn't know palmrest was also an issue ?)
    backlight bleed
    materials used / solidity
    poor speakers
too much power drawn when not loaded / idling, resulting in middle battery life
    fan management / gradual stepping
keyboard ghosting or cross-something, can't remember which is which.

With a bit of luck the new GPUs will draw less power, but I wouldn't bet my hand on that.

When you put all the problems together it really sounds like an awful little machine, eh?

And since the palmrest is the same material as the touchpad it too starts to wear down and change texture. It becomes shiny and weirdly slick.

What about the USB resume from sleep issue in the 8 series chipset? - weren't Intel going to fix this with later silicone - or is it fixed already ??

Also, I would think they would have new CPU choices too since Intel just refreshed them recently in Jan.

2x 1600 would be a very nice sweet spot as 1600x900 is a nice gaming res at that size.

I might actually finally upgrade from my W110ER to this.....

Things that will turn me off from it...
    Power Draw
    Fan Profile not fixed

Things that will make me buy it..
more than 5 hours of battery life
    2 x 1600 screen starting under 1200 for barebones...
better thermals due to maxwell (if the 860m is maxwell)
    thunderbolt? A man can dream....

EDIT: Just saw a GPU z screenshot of an 860m. It has 1152 cuda cores so it should be a good percentage faster than a GTX 765m

There will apparently be two versions. The MXM version sounds like it will be a Kepler with more cores (1152) and lower clock speed, where the Maxwell version will be embedded and have only 640 cores, but the new architecture will allow for a 40W TDP only and be ~ 15% faster than 765m.

If they can seriously keep the 865m < 40W TDP it will be a cool running machine. So far Intel hasn't revised their Haswell chips yet, surprisingly. Usually by this time they would have bumped CPU speeds by 100-200MHz at the same TDP. I just want a cooler running CPU, period though. I'd rather take a same speed i7-4700MQ running 10C cooler in general than something faster.

Actually Intel has already refreshed the mobile Haswell series, although they released them silently without fanfare. Just add 10 to each processor eg. 4710MQ, 4810MQ for the new numbers.

I may actually consider upgrading to the 4940MX when prices come down. It's either that or a desktop 4770K for all my benching needs, since beating my 4900MQ black and blue just doesn't feel right.

It would appear that Reflex Notebook as well as Sager Notebook have removed the W230st from their respective websites.... I imagine we won't have to wait too much longer to see what the final config, pricing, etc... will be.

Nvidia and their naming. No maxwell mxm is kinda strange. That may point to odd bios requirements which is not a good sign.

Hmm.. do you suggest I hold off on the W230SS - at least until it's had a couple of weeks in the market to prove itself / iron out any issues?
I've been refreshing the XoticPC/Sager sites all day thinking today would be the release day (1st March), but :nah:

I wonder how does the W230SS's battery life and speaker quality compare to the W230ST? I heard the W230ST was lacking in those two fields.

    How is it strange ?
Did you ever see a 13.3" mxm laptop ?
Nop, because there's none. it's perfectly normal, and has nothing to do with any bios requirements.

I think what was ment by strange was that if the MXM slot is there for the Kepler version why not use the MXM for the Maxwell also?

Yes MXM has never been used in a 13.3" laptop as far as I know, but it has been used in 15.6" machines.

We have one at our office. It's basically the same, which means, regarding speaker quality: it's totally OK for a Laptop. You should get external speakers or headphones if you're serious about immersion. Battery life is fine as well - clocks in at about 5 hours if you don't install any bloatware and don't do heavy WiFi streaming.

In short: just buy it! It's the best 13" laptop available world-wide! :p

We can't give dates at the moment as the product hasn't been officially launched in any sales area quite yet.

Expect the same coverage as usual immediately upon launch of new XMG models;-)

Aw... I really prefer to have at least 7 hours of battery life for college when I just need it for Firefox or MS Word.

What would the power consumption would be if I disabled two of the i7-4700MQ's cores and downclocked/under-volted it to 1.4 GHz?
