Basically it looks like we could have a 13" Clevo notebook with the following specs:
Clevo W230ST
13.3" 1920x1080 LCD
Haswell quad-core CPU
mid-grade nVidia GDDR5 GPU (760m?)
Backlit Keyboard
Sound Blaster Cinema Audio
ETA: July 2013
Here's to hoping battery life is halfway decent. Not to mention it should sport a 9.5mm 2.5" bay and an mSATA slot. I'm sure it's not going to be in the "thin and light" category. But if it's no thicker than the W110ER I'll be fine with that. Still be a good size and if specs are true awesome performer, in likely less than 5 lbs package. I'm going to assume 120W PSU required. I also hope they offer a quality LCD, with possibly IPS or high viewing angle/gamut/brightness panel as an option at least... and MATTE!
Now if they can offer that same 13" with an AMD Trinity 2.0 APU with no dedicated GPU and drop the price $400, they'd satisfy a whole LOT of users.

I like the sound of this!, a 760m gpu would be incredible. following in the W110's 650m wake I suppose (am I right in saying this was ground breaking performance in this form factor, I'm not aware of anything close to it?
I'd like to see the 1366x768 and the 1920x1080 panel options. I agree fully that high resolution gaming can't be beaten, the more the better, I still miss Battlefield 3 on my Dell U3011 at 2560x1600 it was just stunning in comparison to 1080p!
I do however find general computer use, programs, and browsing more comfortable at 1366x768. I know I can run 768 on the desktop and 1080 in game but I don't like the interlacing on the desktop - it's never quite good enough, things look slightly furry.................. I'm so picky -

Only concern here would be with heat buildup in the smaller chassis. But Clevo is good about addressing heat dissipation.

It will be intersting if nvidia pull up the bootstraps of its series again.
Will we get gk107 and 104 refreshes or will the 760 be a cut down gk106 or continue as the top end gk107?
Im quite interested, maybe it will be the gtx770m.... -
TheBlackIdentity Notebook Evangelist
This will probably get the improved version of the current 660m witch will be named the 750m.

I do not have a doubt in my mind if this comes out the way I think it will... this baby will be a top seller for Clevo - Sager!
-
awesome, if the screen has a decent colour gamut this will be probably end up being my next laptop.
-
Is there any picture of this W230ST lying somewhere in the internet?
-
Can anyone resellers take a guess or have any idea what the price point will be?

I'm sure they are as much in the dark as we are as far as pricing considering they don't even know pricing on new stuff until like 24-48 hours before release.
But if it comes as I spec'ed it: 45W quad core (unless there's more 35W quad options), 1080p screen, backlit keyboard, stock HDD, GT 750m/760m probably about $1000 base. -
999 base would be golden

If I had to guess for a base (based on the current W110ER model), it would be an i5 with option to upgrade to an i7, the GPU will probably be a 750M... maybe a 760M but I'm not holding my breath on that. Guessing that the 750M performance would probably be ~660M ballpark... just a wild guess due to the performance NBcheck did on the 730M as it performed a bit over the 640M. Wild guess on base pricing, $949, will a really nice spec'd (RAM, HD upgrade) at $1200.

Well if they can cram in a 650m (~ 45W TDP) and 45W CPU in the 11.6" I would think they could manage a 60-65W TDP GPU. 670mx is considered a 75W TDP GPU, although I think it's a bit less than that. With some process improvements if they can get that to 65W it would be a perfect match, although I think a 13.3" with Clevo cooling could handle a 45W CPU + 75W GPU combination as long as they don't include an optical drive. Oh yeah, please Clevo NO OPTICAL DRIVE! That's prime real estate for additional cooling. Thanks.
For 1080p gaming the 128-bit bus would be a bit restrictive, but 192-bit would be great in that form factor. 256-bit would be nice, but not likely considering all 256-bit cards are 100W. The 660m already shows its weakness at 1080p because of the 128-bit bus bandwidth. If anyone can do it, clevo can. This thing will likely be 1.5" thick at thickest point, and likely weigh about 5 lbs. But it's overall size should be appreciably smaller and lighter than most 15" notebooks with similar hardware. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The 660M starts to struggle at 1080p mostly due to the shaders (only being 384 of them). The bus complements them well.
-
Well bus and shaders. 128-bit even on a desktop card struggles with 1080p performance. I have a Radeon 6670 with GDDR5 vRAM in a desktop and it does great at 1600x900 or 1280x720 but it just drops performance like a rock at 1080p. Although my GTX 460 performs admirably at 1080p but it's a 192-bit bus with only 336 cores, with comparable clocks to the 660m that has 128-bit bus and 384 cores.
But whatever, I guess squeeze max performance they can please. 192-bit 1000+ cores please. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Remember Fermi cores are clocked at twice the core clock so 336 fermi cores are worth more. The GK107 is more related to the GT450 desktop with 192 fermi cores.

It's likely to be similar in design to the current 11 inch model.

If they just increase the screen size and the cooling capability along with the battery size it will do well.
-
I hope they tune the machine for battery life too. It was just weird how some would get 6 hours out of the box, while others were about 4-4.5 hours. Still pretty impressive though. I have a feeling too it will be remarkably similar to the W110ER just 1080p screen, backlit keyboard, single 2.5" bay and possibly (please) mSATA slot.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes all that or just a big optical drive wasting all the space :s
-
I hope they get rid of it. USB recovery is the way to go

Well I think for a lot of people having an external usb one at home makes more sense.
-
-
I'm sure they'll screw it up somehow... But on the other hand I'm positive that Clevo is moving to the right direction and when time comes that I shall part with my p150hm I'm sure there will be a suitable alternative.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Well putting a 7970M in your 150HM would extend it's life span as a gaming machine for quite some time.
-
well I for one can only agree with meaker's assessment there

Have you still not got thiaphoon burner and modified you ram clocks yet?
-
nnnnoooooooooooooooooo
not worth it yet on my corsair value sticks
have done some half-assed stuff with XTU but u cant expect much from such modules. i may order a 2x8 gb kit in march tho. just not sure yet if i should go for 1866 corsair vengeance or for the low voltage 1600 samsung ones, since they have proven to be great overclockers (up to 2133, but that was with 4gb sticks).
sorry for the OT -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Low voltage sammies, mine do around 1ghz at CL9 with CR1 on 4 sticks ^-^
-
say wha? dayum! is that with 4gb or 8gb sticks? also, i was wondering: why even bother with thaiphoon burner if u can do the same with xtu? any advantages?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
If XTU gives you the control then fine, that's with 4x4GB sticks.
-
Well does XTU make the changes permanently or only with XTU software running? Typhoon Burner actually programs the JEDEC table doesn't it? I dunno I'm just guessing.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Xtu does usually modify the bios settings themselves.
-
cool thing with xtu tho: if a setting causes a crash/black screen/blue screen/whatever, it automatically resets to default settings. especially handy when OCing RAM, since one doesnt have to do the whole "install faulty ram stick into running machine and flash it with default spd" kinda thing if the OC goes wrong
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
No, you use a stick at a slower rating to force the ram to slow down =) should run just fine without hot swapping.
-
it's just a day or two away now

I want a really portable gaming laptop, but I'm torn between the NP6110 and the W230ST. I don't know if I should just get the NP6110 or wait for the W230ST.
Does anybody know what the price range may be for 13 inch gaming laptops? -
Wouldnt be surprised if it (the pricing, thats is) was pretty much identical to this year´s 11inch model... with comparable specs, of course
-
Still hoping for something like 760m GDDR5. Please!
-
There will be a variety of factors in pricing, but if it really does ship with a 1080p screen and if they do manage to get a 760M in it (I'm still betting it's just a 750M), you'll see a bump in the price compared to the 11". I believe the original source post stated the 11" model wasn't being discontinued, just wasn't getting a refresh. So the 11" would probably keep the same price point, maybe a little bit of a discount when the new 13" model comes out, but I'm thinking it's probably gon'na be $1099.99-$1199.99 base.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I agree it will depend on the specifications and positioning and is likely (I have no special info) to cost more than the 11", just hopefully a touch more and not lots more.
-
I'm sure you'll push this beast to its limits too, lol, but that's good. Amazing that the W110ER can get over 3000 3DMark11 with a BIOS OV mod.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I'm not sure how well I would do owning a machine without an MXM slot, it would feel.... odd.

like a professional formula one driver with a pimped up prius?

Maybe if:
A) The next gpu was pin compatible
B) The Vbios was not a pain to get to being encoded in the system bios
-
Will this be a dual fan design chassis or will they keep it to a one fan?
W230ST - The 13" We've been waiting for!?
