I am torn between the two models and wondered what others thought.

I am in the market for a 13.3-14.1" notebook capable of playing DOTA/CS:GO well. Preferably I don't spend too much as this is a secondary computer for lugging around to cafes and my girlfriend's place (I hated carrying around my P650SE).

I have narrowed it down to the W230ST and SS.

The ST is older with the 765M, but only costs 800. The newer SS with the 860M is 1010.

Both models will be identical in other specs with a 1080p IPS display, i5-4210M, 8GB of RAM and a 120GB M500 SSD.

Since I am only going to playing those two games, is it best I save my money and go with the ST/765M?

My only concern is whether or not that 800 is worth paying for since it's two year old technology.

I have taken a look at other notebooks at Newegg and NCIX, but with taxes after, even a laptop with a 850M is going to cost more than 1000 without the smaller footprint of a 13.3" and ideal specs.

P.S. If anyone is willing to sell one of the two models at a nice deal, holla at me!

    P.P.S. I forgot to mention that I can also get a Lenovo Y40 for 620. Here is a thread - http://forums.redflagdeals.com/gaming-laptop-lenovo-y40-w-sandisk-ultra-ii-ssd-700-obo-1738979/

The new SS/SD has somewhat better idle battery life, which might matter depends on your usage pattern.

In terms of performance, the 765M is good enough if you're sure you will only play those two games, or just about anything that's not super demanding.

Although the screen does not match the 13 inch models.

There's a significant performance difference between the 860M and 765M, maybe not in CS:GO because it's so undemanding but in DOTA FHD Ultra settings you're looking at 85 vs 45 fps. There's less of a difference between the 860M and 960M but the 860M is very good value for money. Plus the 860M is only 1 year old, not 2 :)

You never know if you may start using it for more that you think, plus the 860M will be easier to sell in the future if you decide/need to sell it.
