Moin,
while trying to reduce the fan noise of my W860CU I noticed that there is absolutely no readout available for my
- GPU fan speed
- GPU load
- CPU fan speed
I´ve used several tools, including AIDA64, SpeedFan, GPU-Z and HWMonitor. No joy.
I´ve already managed to reduce the GPU idle temp to about 42°c (ambient is 21°C, on a CoolerMaster cooling stand) while downclocked to 200/300. But fan speed does not reduce the slightest. I´ve reworked the fan throttle control settings (0% until hitting 80°C) using RBE1.26 and flashed the VBIOS. No change either.
I´ve worked my way all through the threads regarding the noise of W860CU/NP8690. But my major question remains: Any idea why there´s no fan speed readout available?

DD

The fan speeds for these notebooks are controlled by the KBC/EC firmware and are not readable/editable afaik.

Moin,
not what I was hoping for. But thanks anyway.
I´ve checked the KBC/EC firmware file in my hex editor. Unfortunately there is not a single ASCII string present to give a clue. Without detailed information about the file structure and conventions to meet, there is no way to hex edit it.
While I was at it I´ve had a quick look into the system BIOS file (v1.00.18) too. I was surprised to find great blank areas filled with xFF or x00. I guess these areas are placeholders that have originally been used/designed to access presently unavailable features such as fan control.
