Hello, i just recently bought a Clevo W860CU and was wondering what temps you guys are getting

I have a 17-620M installed and my idle temps are 45C-50C after i removed that piece of black tape because before i was getting 60C+, before i removed the tape i was installing/downloading world of warcraft and my computer would turn off because i was hitting 110C, playing Doom 3 i would be at 80C, I don't know if this is normal because i just upgraded from a sager M860TU with a QX9300 and my temps were 90C under-load and the model only had 1 fan, this one has 2 fans and some vents on the front of the computer.

So i was wondering, are my temps normal or are they too high? It seems the only time my CPU gets hot is when i install something or extract something using WinRAR, could my SSD be the problem?

    Thanks,

It's pretty normal, these chips handle heat better than the Core2's. Getting 80*C with your GPU under load as well isn't a problem.

Wich black tape are you talking about? I'm looking forward to buy the same notebook, but with a i7 820QM instead...

My i7 820QM idles at 44-45C and when I tested the i7 620M, it idles even lower around 38C - 40C. Under load my CPU never goes beyond 71C and that is after playing GTA IV or any other games. My GPU never goes beyond 80C.

I have no idea why anyone would say this is normal when you clearly state that your laptop switched itself of. I wonder whether your thermal paste is the problem assuming that there are no dust build ups or fan issues.

Anyone recommend a good thermal paste? I was looking at the Artic Silver 5 seems like the best one available. I just ran Bad Company 2 and my temps max out at 95C and GPU at 70C

I recommend MX3 and the application method of applying a line across each die. I also recommend Articlean remover and purifier. I see no reason to use conductive pastes anymore.

Your CPU should be nowhere near 95C after playing BFBC2, it should be around the 60's or 70's.

Alright well just went to the store and picked some up i reapplied the thermal paste and i noticed someone put a piece of wax paper between the cpu and the heat sink i don't know if that is supposed to do anything but i got rid of t because i have never seen it on a computer or laptop, my idle temps right now are 40C, i'll wait until the pastes sets in before i do some tests

Sounds like the paper that is on new CPU's before installation. The installers are supposed to remove that before assembly if it is what I think it is.

Yeah so i loaded up BFBC2 and my max temp stayed at 55C-60C, So it was either the thermal compound that helped or the piece of paper. Anyway thanks a lot for the help man i appreciate it, i probably should of checked my GPU but my max temp on my 5870 is 75-80C which seems fine, although i wouldn't be surprised if there was a piece of paper on top of the GPU too.

Since the thermal paste is used to close the microscopic gaps between the CPU and the heatsink (to aid in heat dissipation), that piece of paper would have prevented it from doing its job properly.

Glad you got it sorted out now. Your GPU temps are fine and would be higher if that also had a piece of paper on it.
