I came back to my room after work and the computer was off (I leave it on normaly). When I start it up it turns on, CPU fan spins, power light comes on, screen doesn't turn on...then 10 seconds later it shuts down.

There was no changes or anything done (hardware or software) recently.

    Things I've noticed/done:
    The battery doesn't charge.
    But:
With just battery it does the same thing (shuts down after 10 seconds)
Wtih no battery and power brick same thing
    With no RAM same thing
    With no GPU same thing
With no CPU, turns on but shutsdown right away (no 10 second delay)

So I'm not sure if it's a power controller issue on the motherboard, dead CPU, or dead motherboard? Any advice?

    Can you try another CPU?

I feel bad for you, it's a difficult problem to solve (had a similar problem (different notebook though) and a new motherboard + CPU fixed it).

My gut tells me it's the motherboard, any chance you could return the barebones and get another one (I guess this must also be not an easy thing to do when you are in Iraq) ?

I would also check for any shorts, maybe something stuck in a port... never know what can happen with kids around (or people playing practical jokes).

This sounds simple, but are you sure you've turned the CPU lock all the way?

I forgot to do this once, it will behave as there is no CPU (shut down immediately).

When I took the CPU out (to test with no CPU) it shutdown right away like what your talking about. Before taking it out and putting it back in still caused the 10 second delay (with no CPU it was right away).

Thanks for all the suggestions...I'm awaiting to hear back from the manufacturer for RMA. any more suggestions are welcome though!
