Expect it at a little less than $500.

A what about the older one with the 5870? You would need a new power supply right?

So first I heard it was to be released in March now this site is saying February for that card. How is it that Eurocom has already got their hands on it but retailers like Xoticpc have not yet? I would think American retailers would have gotten first dibs on those lol

Eurocom is very dishonest, they always post about things upcoming but and say they will have it but dont. Do some forum searches about them.

They probably acquired a few for testing. Eurocom is a large-scale retail company, while XoticPC is merely a reseller. It's not surprising that they have some already.

Eurocom isn't ready to sell machines to customers though. They don't have them in batches yet.

Kevin_jack2.0, will the 6970 work on the older w860s with the 5870, all that would be needed is a new PS right?

Actually, I don't think you'll need an new PSU. The fact that the HD 6970M can be used in the W860CU tells us that it is not a 100W TDP card but more like 80W. Look at the numbers:

    i7-820QM + HD 5870M = 124.5W (gaming load), 165.4W max stress test load.
    i7-740QM + HD 6970M = 110W (gaming load), 150,5W max tress test load.

Add 10W more to the second result because under load the 820QM eats more power than the 740QM and it is pretty much the same result. Pretty amazing.

The price is once again the problem with the GTX 485M. Why the hell should I get that card if I can get HD 6970M crossfire at almost the same price spot soon. And from the HD 6850 crossfire benchmarks, it just kicks . (Sure, GTX 485M SLi is even better, but just not affordable enough). Especially if you keep in mind that you could oc the HD 6970M to stock HD 6850 clocks (680 -> 775) if it really is that efficienct.

If you go by Anand's numbers here (5870m = 5770, 6970m = 6850 both downclocked). I would expect the 6970m to be about 10w more than the 5870m.

ALso arent the newer w860us with the Nivida cards a tad thicker? I thought the chassis was a fraction bigger to allow better cooling, i'd love to upgrade my 5870 to something newer.

I emailed eurocom asking about pricing and availability of the 6970m for the w860cu, this is what I got back from John Shore.

"We have very limited stock of the video card currently. I am restricted to selling them only with new unit orders until we ca get more into stock. I would think this should happen later this month, early Feb.

The cost for the card is $369.00 US."

How much better is the 6970m then the 5870m?

If that ends up being remotely close to the price of these cards, I'm definitely getting two of these :D

Edit: Well, maybe 1 to see if it even works in my system, then maybe another one down the road seeing as one should be enough for 90% of the games I play.

i wounder if the 6970 will work in the older w860s that came with the 5870s, and if there would be any benefit since those systems don't have the new SB CPUs.

How could they have them available for sale when Justin just said that AMD does not expect to start mass producing them for another few weeks for Clevo laptops? Is Eurocom getting special attention that other retailers aren't or something?

Nope, they probably have a limited supply of engineering samples. AFAIK, selling such parts separately or within a system is against the law.
