I have connected my W870CU to a Philips LCD via an HDMI cable. The video is fine but there is no idea. I have already tried updating the Nvidia and Realtek drivers, but it still doesn't have sound. Yes, I did select Realtek Digital Output in my sound devices (Windows 7), but that also doesn't work.

I've had issues in the past with an hp with getting hdmi sound to work from a 9600m gt. I turned out I had to mess with the win 7 sound/mixer options, no the idt audio panel, to make sure it was set to hdmi out.

theres been quite a few posts about this problem and im sure i read a fix on here.

if it was a graphics problem with no picture then there is a new driver out but its only for graphics i think and not sound.

you could always contact your supplier and ask for the 187.71 driver,it might help.

I installed the latest driver for my video card.
Also, I don't see an HDMI option in my audio devices. The Realtek option also yields no results.

Right click the audio icon on the task bar and choose play back devices, can you confirm you don't see an hdmi out?

Also when you do that right click any of your devices and choose show disabled devices.

I'm assuming your pc come with win 7? Some people with had issues with hdmi sound from nvidia cards not working after upgrading from vista to 7

Can you find the details of the realtek chip you have, because some people have reported bad chips as being the culprit as well

Edit: Also are you using a direct hdmi connection or doing through dvi adapter?

It's a direct HDMI connection as (DVI to HDMI would be totally pointless)
As for the realtek chip, how do I find the exact model and chip?

Maybe try looking under device manager, or looking up the part numbers of your pc config online, some people had said a bad batch of chips were used and had listed the number. I guess you can google it to find out more.

The thing is, even if the chip is bad and won't output sound properly its strange that windows doesn't even recognize that you have an hdmi audio out.

Is there any way to disable the on board realtek chip in the bios and perhaps use the chip thats on the 285?

Edit: if the bios isn't possible try uninstalling the realtek driver and then reinstalling the nvidia driver. If the hdmi shows up in the playback devices then you know its a hardware/driver conflict.

Is the TV HDCP compliant, have a look under your vga control panel. Also you may find that you have to change the audio device in control panel in order for audio over hdmi. On my M860TU I have to select the nvidia hdmi audio device instead of the realtek. On my Realtek software I also select Output Digital Audio Device under my soundmanager settings.

Finally if none of the above works you could try sending the audio out of your headphone output or your speaker output and connect to your TV.

now i have finally solved this problem:
(i don't know if it's important but i did all these steps while the tv was connected to the w870cu)
    1) uninstall realtek driver
    2) uninstall nvidia driver
    3) reboot
    4) install the newest nvidia driver 257.21
    ( here)
    5) reinstall newest Realtek Drivers ( here)
    6) reboot
    7) change sound setting default device to High Definition Audio
-> works for me in combination with a philipps tv

i think the solution was only the new driver version

hope this helps other people which also spent a lot of time with this problem :)
